Aamir Khan and His Emotional Struggle: Why He Thought of Leaving Movies

0

Aamir Khan’s film Laal Singh Chaddha was released in 2022, but during its making, the actor experienced an intensely emotional period that nearly led him to quit the film industry. In a recent interview, Aamir revealed that while filming this movie, he decided to leave the industry altogether. However, this decision deeply affected his ex-wife Kiran Rao, who became emotional and even cried. His children also played a pivotal role in convincing him not to go through with it.

Aamir Khan’s Emotional Phase During Laal Singh Chaddha

Aamir and Kiran recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter India, where the actor disclosed that he made this decision during the COVID-19 pandemic. He shared, “I was going through an emotional phase. I realized that since I was 18 years old, my entire life has been devoted to cinema. I had barely spent any meaningful time with my family. Work kept me from giving time to my relationships—whether it was with my children, siblings, or other family members. Be it Kiran or Reena, I was unable to dedicate enough time to any of them.”

A Desire to Prioritize Family

Aamir explained that this realization hit him during the filming of Laal Singh Chaddha, as half of the movie was shot before the pandemic and the other half afterward. He continued, “Over the past 35 years, I have worked on many films, but now I want to focus on my family. I’m glad that this realization came to me at 56 or 57, and not at 88, when it would have been too late.”

Kiran Rao’s Emotional Reaction

When Aamir shared his decision with Kiran, she was deeply moved. She took him aside to their balcony and said, “Are you leaving us?” Aamir clarified, “No, I’m not leaving you; I’m leaving films.” Kiran’s response was, “If you’re leaving films, it feels like you’re leaving us.”

Aamir’s journey in the world of acting began at the tender age of eight when he appeared as a child artist in Nasir Hussain’s film Yaadon Ki Baaraat. At 18, he performed in his first adult role in the film Subah Subah, made by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), although the movie never released.
