Anurag Kashyap’s Reaction
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag shared his discomfort with Shankar’s comment. He said, “I read the statement by Shankar sir, where he said that today’s audience has become quite narrow. They watch reels, and so while making Game Changer, we kept that in mind.” Anurag added that he couldn’t understand the full meaning behind this statement, and would only know its impact once he watches the film.
Anurag Critiques the Trend of Catering to Audiences’ Expectations
Anurag further elaborated on his thoughts, explaining why he disagreed with this approach. “Many filmmakers today speak the language of, ‘My film is just like reels.’ Filmmakers who were once like chefs creating something new have now become caterers. The moment anyone starts thinking about what the audience wants to see, that’s when the decline begins,” he said. According to Anurag, the audience is not a single entity, but a vast sea, with distinct tastes for different kinds of films.
