Vibe Box Office Collection Day 1: Kunal Kemmu Film Opens Slow

Kunal Kemmu’s Vibe has opened to a slow start at the box office. Despite limited occupancy, the film has managed to edge past the opening-day collection of Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga.

Kunal Kemmu’s latest directorial Vibe has opened in theatres with a slow response on its first day. The action-comedy, which marks Kemmu’s second film as a director after Madgaon Express, released on Friday and recorded limited occupancy across India.

According to the latest estimates cited by Hindustan Times, the film collected around ₹1.29 crore net at the domestic box office on Day 1. It was running across 3,194 shows and recorded an overall occupancy of around 12 percent.

The opening-day figures indicate a modest start, although evening shows witnessed an improvement compared with the morning. The performance over the weekend will now be important in determining whether the film can build stronger momentum.

Kunal Kemmu’s Film Sees Gradual Rise in Occupancy

The movie began its theatrical journey with relatively low occupancy during the morning shows. It recorded around 6 percent occupancy in the morning, which increased to 11.31 percent during afternoon screenings.

By the evening, occupancy touched approximately 14 percent, indicating that audience turnout improved as the day progressed. Delhi-NCR recorded the highest occupancy among the major markets mentioned in the report, followed by Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Mumbai, another important market for Hindi films, also recorded around 11 percent occupancy.

The gradual increase throughout the day could provide some encouragement ahead of the weekend, when theatrical footfalls generally tend to rise. If the trend continues on Saturday and Sunday, the film could see an improvement in its collections.

Vibe Beats Main Vaapas Aaunga’s Opening Day

Despite its slow start, Vibe has managed to record a slightly higher opening-day collection than Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga.

Main Vaapas Aaunga, which released earlier this year, earned ₹1.28 crore on its opening day according to available box-office data.

With an estimated ₹1.29 crore on Day 1, Kemmu’s film has edged past that figure by a narrow margin.

However, the comparison remains limited to opening-day numbers, and the two films have different release circumstances, casts and theatrical runs. The performance over the first weekend will provide a clearer indication of audience interest.

Vibe Stars Kunal Kemmu, Preity Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava

The film features Kunal Kemmu, Preity Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava in key roles. It combines action and comedy and marks Kemmu’s return to the director’s chair following the success of Madgaon Express.

The promotional material has highlighted its unusual mix of genres, with the story revolving around two friends whose ordinary lives turn into an unpredictable and high-energy adventure.

For Kemmu, the project represents another opportunity to establish himself behind the camera after making his directorial debut with Madgaon Express.

The casting has also generated interest, particularly because of Preity Zinta’s return to the big screen in a prominent role. Her presence has added another layer of curiosity around the theatrical release.

How Does Vibe Compare With Madgaon Express?

Kunal Kemmu’s previous directorial venture, Madgaon Express, also had a relatively slow beginning at the box office when it opened in 2024. The film initially recorded modest theatrical numbers before gaining attention and finding a wider audience later.

According to available box-office data, Madgaon Express collected approximately ₹1.50 crore on its opening day, which remains higher than the current opening-day figure reported for Vibe.

The comparison gives some context to the latest opening performance, although the film still has an entire weekend ahead to improve its theatrical numbers.

Weekend Performance Holds the Key

With the opening day showing limited occupancy, the weekend will be particularly important for Vibe. Saturday and Sunday generally bring stronger audience turnout, especially for films that depend on positive word of mouth.

The evening occupancy on Day 1 showed some improvement, which could translate into better numbers over the weekend if audience response remains favourable.

At present, the film has recorded a modest opening, but its eventual box-office performance will depend on how well it sustains momentum during the next few days.

Competition from other releases and audience preferences will also play a role in determining its theatrical run. A noticeable jump on Saturday could give the movie a stronger foundation for Sunday.

Vibe Marks Kunal Kemmu’s Second Directorial

Vibe is Kunal Kemmu’s second film as a director after Madgaon Express. His debut directorial venture received attention for its comedy-driven storytelling and ensemble cast.

With his latest project, Kemmu has moved into a different space by combining action with comedy and bringing together actors including Preity Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava.

The project also carries interest because of Zinta’s return to the big screen in a prominent role. Her involvement has added another talking point around the release among Bollywood audiences.

For Kemmu, the film represents another step in his journey as a filmmaker. Its theatrical performance will now determine whether his second directorial can connect with audiences in the same way his debut eventually did.

What Lies Ahead for Vibe at the Box Office?

The first weekend will now determine whether Vibe can turn its slow opening into a more stable theatrical run. The film has started with limited numbers, but the increase in occupancy through the day suggests that some shows witnessed stronger audience participation later in the day.

With competition from other releases and changing audience preferences, the movie will need to maintain its momentum during the weekend.

For now, the film has opened at around ₹1.29 crore net in India and has narrowly surpassed Main Vaapas Aaunga’s opening-day figure. The coming days will reveal whether Kunal Kemmu’s second directorial can build stronger momentum at the box office and deliver a better weekend performance.
