Vivek Agnihotri Takes to Streets in Kolkata to Demand Justice for Rape Victim

The recent incident of rape and murder involving a trainee doctor in Kolkata has shocked the entire nation. The brutality of this crime has ignited widespread outrage across the country. In response, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, known for directing "The Kashmir Files," has stepped forward to demand justice for the victim’s family and is rallying public support. The horrific act in Kolkata has prompted massive protests, with people from all walks of life expressing their anger and calling for action. Many celebrities from the film industry had previously voiced their dismay over the incident. Vivek Agnihotri has now added his voice to the chorus of dissent. On Wednesday, he announced via his official X (formerly Twitter) account that he will be participating in the protests on the streets of Kolkata. He shared a video urging citizens to join him in the fight for women's safety and the right to life. In his tweet, he said: "Hello, Kolkata! Tomorrow, I’ll be joining the protest rally against the brutal rape and murder of an on-duty doctor. I urge all citizens to join me in demanding women’s safety and our right to life." The protest march, scheduled for August 21, will begin at 3:30 PM from Maula Ali Crossing and proceed to Dorina Crossing. Agnihotri will be leading the demonstration alongside other protestors. Prior to this, celebrities such as Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, Kareena Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, and Anushka Sharma have also expressed their outrage over the incident. Vivek Agnihotri, who gained prominence with "The Kashmir Files," is making headlines again with his activism. The film, which highlighted the atrocities in the Kashmir Valley, earned him significant acclaim. Agnihotri had previously directed films like "Hate Story" but received a new level of recognition with his recent work. His latest film, "The Vaccine War," released last year, did not achieve the same success as "The Kashmir Files."
