Santy Sharma Criticizes ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ Title, Calls for Responsible Filmmaking
Popular rapper and singer Santy Sharma has voiced strong objections to the title of the upcoming Netflix film Ghooskhor Pandat, starring Manoj Bajpayee. Reacting to the controversy, Santy described the title as insensitive and harmful, stating that it unfairly associates a respected community identity with corruption. He emphasized that creative freedom should not be used as an excuse to hurt social and cultural sentiments.
Santy, who hails from Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, said that he feels personally affected by the choice of words used in the film’s title. Identifying himself as a Brahmin by birth and a “Pandit by values,” he said that such portrayals create negative perceptions and deepen social divides. According to him, filmmakers had several neutral options available, yet chose a title that provoked controversy and emotional distress among many viewers.
Raising further concerns, Santy questioned the process followed by the makers, claiming that the title was allegedly not registered before promotional material was released. He called this approach careless and unprofessional. He also urged authorities to frame stricter guidelines to ensure that community identities are not misused in entertainment content.
The issue gained momentum after the film’s teaser was unveiled at a Netflix event in Mumbai, leading to legal objections and an FIR against the filmmakers in Lucknow. Following government intervention, Netflix was directed to remove the promotional content.
Responding to the criticism, filmmaker Neeraj Pandey clarified that the film is purely fictional and that the term “Pandat” is used only as a character’s nickname. He also announced a temporary halt on promotions.
Starring Manoj Bajpayee, Nusrat Bharucha, and Saqib Saleem, Ghooskhor Pandat remains under public scrutiny as the debate around responsible storytelling continues.
