Toxic Box Office Crash: Yash Film Falls From ₹118 Crore to ₹7 Crore

Yash’s much-awaited action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has gone from a spectacular opening to a worrying box-office slide within just six days. The film opened with a reported ₹118 crore India gross on Day 1, creating huge expectations around its theatrical run. However, according to Bollywood Hungama’s latest trade estimate, the film could collect only around ₹6.50–7 crore on its first Monday.

The sharp decline has become the biggest talking point surrounding the film. Bollywood Hungama has described the performance as a major box-office disappointment, attributing the fall to weak audience word-of-mouth.

Toxic Box Office Sees Massive Monday Drop

The Toxic box office journey has been anything but ordinary. The film began with an enormous opening, reportedly earning ₹118 crore gross in India on Day 1. Such a start immediately positioned Yash’s film as one of the biggest theatrical events of the year.

But the momentum weakened rapidly.

According to the latest Bollywood Hungama estimate, Toxic is expected to finish its first Monday with only ₹6.50 crore to ₹7 crore in India. That means the film's Monday business could be less than six percent of its opening-day gross.

The contrast is striking: a film that started with ₹118 crore has reportedly come down to around ₹7 crore just five days later.

Six-Day Total Reaches Around ₹238 Crore

Despite the sharp daily decline, Toxic has still accumulated a sizeable total because of its extraordinary opening.

Bollywood Hungama estimates the film’s six-day India gross at around ₹238 crore. The publication further projects that the movie could finish its domestic theatrical run at approximately ₹260 crore, although that final estimate could change depending on its performance in the coming days.

The huge opening has therefore helped the film maintain a substantial overall number despite the collapse in daily collections.

Hindi Version Remains the Biggest Contributor

The Toxic box office collection has been supported significantly by its Hindi version.

For the first Monday, Bollywood Hungama estimates that the Hindi version will contribute around ₹4.50 crore gross, while Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam combined are expected to add approximately ₹2.50 crore.

This demonstrates the importance of the Hindi market to the film’s theatrical performance. Yash already has a massive Hindi-speaking fan base following the success of the KGF franchise, and Toxic was expected to build on that popularity.

However, the Monday numbers suggest that the film has struggled to convert its enormous opening-day curiosity into sustained audience demand.

Why Did Toxic Lose Momentum?

The biggest reason being cited for the Toxic box office crash is negative or mixed word-of-mouth.

While Yash’s star power created an enormous opening, audience reactions after the first shows reportedly became increasingly divided. The film’s violent action, narrative style and portrayal of certain characters have generated considerable discussion online.

Other reports have also highlighted the contrast between the film's huge opening and its declining day-to-day collections. India Today noted that the film's domestic momentum weakened after the ₹100-crore-plus opening, while criticism surrounding its content continued to be part of the conversation.

This is a classic example of why opening-day numbers alone cannot determine a film's final box-office fate.

Toxic Crossed ₹200 Crore in India Quickly

Despite the decline, Toxic did achieve an important milestone during its extended opening weekend.

According to NDTV and India Today, the film crossed the ₹200 crore India net mark over its first five days. India Today reported a five-day India net collection of around ₹214.10 crore, while its India gross stood at approximately ₹255.95 crore.

The film also reportedly reached around ₹285.20 crore worldwide after five days, bringing it close to the ₹300-crore global milestone.

These numbers show why it is important to distinguish between gross and net collections when comparing different trade reports.

Opening Day Was the Film’s Biggest Strength

The central problem for Toxic is that its opening-day performance was exceptionally strong, creating a very high benchmark for the following days.

The film reportedly collected ₹101.10 crore India net on Day 1 according to several trackers, while Bollywood Hungama reports an India gross opening of ₹118 crore.

After that, collections declined sharply. This pattern suggests that the film attracted a huge initial audience because of Yash’s popularity and the anticipation surrounding the project, but struggled to maintain the same level of demand after viewers began sharing their reactions.

Can Toxic Recover From Here?

The coming days will be crucial for the Toxic box office collection.

A strong second week could still improve the film’s final numbers, particularly because the movie has already accumulated a substantial opening-week total. However, if the Monday trend continues through the rest of the week, the film could face difficulty matching the expectations created by its massive debut.

Bollywood Hungama currently expects the film to finish around ₹260 crore gross in India, but this remains an estimate rather than a confirmed final figure.

Yash’s Big Star Power Faces a Tough Test

Toxic was expected to be another major milestone for Yash after the phenomenal success of KGF: Chapter 2. The actor's pan-India popularity and the film's huge scale created enormous pre-release expectations.

But the current Toxic box office trend highlights a difficult reality of the modern theatrical market: even a massive opening cannot guarantee long-term success if audience word-of-mouth turns negative.

The film has already benefited from Yash’s enormous opening-day pull. Now, its remaining theatrical run will depend on whether it can attract viewers beyond the initial fan-driven audience.

For now, the numbers tell a dramatic story—₹118 crore on opening day, around ₹7 crore projected for the first Monday, and a reported six-day India gross of ₹238 crore.
