In a surprising turn of events, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate has been left out of the Lok Sabha election race. This development comes after Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s controversial remarks against Shrinate following her nomination denial for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, where Ranaut is contesting on a BJP ticket.

Ticket Denial Stirs Controversy

On Wednesday, Congress released its eighth list of candidates, and notably missing was Supriya Shrinate’s name. Shrinate was supposed to contest from Maharajganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Instead, Congress has chosen Veerendra Chaudhary to run in her place.

Previous Controversy and Consequences

It’s worth noting that Supriya Shrinate contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Maharajganj seat in 2019 but faced defeat. This time around, she was expected to secure the ticket, until she made highly contentious posts on her official social media account targeting Kangana Ranaut. BJP seized this opportunity, framing it as a matter of women’s dignity.

Congress Announcement and Alliances

As part of an alliance with the Samajwadi Party (SP), Congress has announced candidates for 13 out of 17 seats. On Tuesday, they declared candidates for four more seats. Among these, Dolly Sharma has been nominated from Ghaziabad, while Shivram Valmiki will contest from Bulandshahr. Nakul Dubey, a former minister, will run from Sitapur, and Congress MLA Veerendra Chaudhary will contest from Maharajganj. However, the party is yet to finalize candidates for the remaining four seats, including Rae Bareli and Amethi.

The omission of Supriya Shrinate from the Congress ticket allocation has sparked controversy, particularly in light of her social media clash with Kangana Ranaut. As the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh heats up with alliances and candidate announcements, the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024 are poised to be an intense battleground.
