Sharon Stone Reveals How Lack of Sex Education Led to Teen Pregnancy

Sharon Stone has opened up about a deeply personal chapter from her teenage years. The Hollywood actress recalled becoming pregnant at 17 and said she and her then-boyfriend had little understanding of contraception or reproductive health.

Bollywood News: Hollywood star Sharon Stone has revisited a difficult experience from her teenage years, revealing that a lack of sex education and awareness about contraception contributed to her pregnancy at the age of 17. The actress shared the details while appearing on Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson’s IMO podcast.

Stone, now 68, explained that neither she nor her then-boyfriend had sufficient knowledge about birth control. She said the limited conversation about sexual health during her upbringing left her without basic information about pregnancy prevention.

Sharon Stone Says She Had Very Little Sex Education

During the podcast conversation, Sharon Stone recalled that discussions about sex and reproductive health were extremely limited when she was growing up. She described the advice she received from her mother as brief and insufficient.

Stone was 17 and attending college when she became pregnant, while her boyfriend at the time was 23. According to the actress, neither of them understood that contraception was necessary to prevent an unintended pregnancy.

She explained that she had no real understanding of birth control, while her boyfriend also lacked the information needed to understand the consequences of not using contraception.

Her Pregnancy Was Not Immediately Recognised

Stone also recalled that she did not initially realise she was pregnant. According to her account, it was a change in her weight that eventually prompted her boyfriend to realise something was different.

Even her parents reportedly did not suspect a pregnancy at first. Stone said they believed her weight gain was simply the “freshman 15”, a commonly used expression for weight gained during the first year of college.

The actress has previously spoken about this experience, including in her 2021 memoir The Beauty of Living Twice. Her latest comments have brought that part of her life back into the spotlight.

Sharon Stone Had an Abortion as a Teenager

Stone has previously revealed that she underwent an abortion following the teenage pregnancy. In her memoir, she described the experience as difficult and isolating, saying she had to travel from Pennsylvania to Ohio after struggling to obtain an appointment closer to home.

She also recalled experiencing a painful recovery and keeping the procedure largely secret. Later, Stone credited Planned Parenthood with giving her access to information about sexual health after a clinic opened near her hometown.

Her account highlights how limited access to information and healthcare affected her experience as a teenager.

Sharon Stone Talks About Women’s Healthcare

The discussion eventually moved beyond Stone's personal experience to broader concerns about women's reproductive healthcare. The actress questioned the availability of adequate healthcare and information for women.

Stone also made a humorous remark while discussing how society might look if men could become pregnant. She joked that if men were able to get pregnant, abortion services would be extremely easy to access.

Michelle Obama joined in with her own humorous scenario, imagining a world where men would receive public recognition for going through childbirth.

Why Her Story Has Resonated Again

Sharon Stone's comments have renewed attention around the importance of age-appropriate and accurate sexual health education. The World Health Organization says comprehensive sexuality education can improve young people's understanding of their bodies and health, while also increasing knowledge about contraception and reducing some risks associated with unintended pregnancy.

Stone's experience is personal rather than a general account of all teenage pregnancies, but her comments underline how a lack of basic information can leave young people unprepared to make informed decisions.

Sharon Stone Continues to Speak Openly About Her Past

Over the years, Stone has become increasingly open about difficult experiences from her life and career. Her memoir gave readers an extensive look at several personal chapters, while her latest podcast appearance offered another opportunity to discuss her teenage pregnancy and the circumstances surrounding it.

By speaking publicly about an experience she once kept private, Stone has once again brought a personal story into a wider conversation about education, contraception and access to healthcare.
