The sudden death of filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has left his family and the film industry devastated. Days after his passing, his wife, Anuradha Lekhi Gupta, shared an emotional tribute remembering the man she described as the backbone of their family, the most generous person she knew and the best father in the world.
Anuradha's heartfelt note, shared on her private Instagram account, has been widely discussed on social media. Her words offered a deeply personal glimpse into their relationship, recalling their humour, everyday memories and the love they shared. One line in particular stood out: after wishing she had many more years with him, she said that, for now, even one more day would have been enough.
Sanjay Gupta died on October 30, 2026, at the age of 57, following a reported fall at his Mumbai residence.
Anuradha Calls Sanjay the Backbone of Their Family
Remembering her husband, Anuradha described him as the funniest and most optimistic person she had ever known. She also called him the greatest storyteller and a man whose generosity knew no limits.
In her emotional message, she wrote, "The backbone of our family. Not ONLY of ours… The list is countless."
She recalled how Sanjay had won her heart with a simple omelette, describing it as the best she had ever eaten. She also remembered his romantic side, saying that he later went down on his knees to woo her.
Anuradha's note was filled with personal references that reflected their bond. She described herself as his Queen and him as her Tom, who would constantly tease the Jerry in her.
She also remembered his larger-than-life personality, saying that he had a heart too big for his chest and a soul too soft for the film industry. According to her, he never held grudges and was a true friend to the people around him.
'Just One More Day Would Suffice'
The most heartbreaking part of Anuradha's tribute came towards the end, when she expressed how much she wished they could have spent more time together.
She wrote that she would have liked to share many, many more years with Sanjay, but for the moment, just one more day would have been enough.
She ended the message by expressing her love for him and recalling the affectionate nicknames she used for her husband, including "Gups" and "Gupteshwar".
Even in the middle of her grief, Anuradha retained the couple's familiar sense of humour. Her final lines referred to being told that Sanjay would not stop following her, prompting her to jokingly ask him to let go.
The personal nature of the message has struck a chord with people who have been following the news of the filmmaker's death.
Sanjay Gupta and Anuradha's Love Story

They married again in 2009 and went on to build their family together. Their relationship was also discussed in earlier interviews, where Sanjay spoke about his efforts to win Anuradha back.
The filmmaker had previously acknowledged that his own actions and circumstances surrounding his professional life had contributed to the breakdown of their first marriage. Their eventual reconciliation became an important chapter in their personal story.
