Rajkummar Rao and Pratibha Ranta are reportedly coming together for the first time for an ambitious new Bollywood project titled Vishkanya. Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the film is being developed as a high-concept fantasy horror story set in a mythical universe.
The Rajkummar Rao Pratibha Ranta Vishkanya project is expected to move beyond the conventional formula of horror films. According to reports, the story will combine an expansive magical world with supernatural elements, fear and darker existential themes.
While the makers have kept the plot details tightly under wraps, the film is being described as a story with its own mythology, rules and supernatural framework.
Pratibha Ranta to Play the Titular Vishkanya

Pratibha rose to prominence with Kiran Rao’s critically acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies, where her performance received considerable attention. Since then, the actress has continued to explore varied roles, including her recent appearance in Accused.
Playing the central character in a fantasy horror film marks a different direction for the actress. The role is expected to require her to step into a supernatural world that is significantly different from her previous screen appearances.

Rajkummar Rao Takes on a Fantasy Horror World

Sonal Joshi to Direct Vishkanya
Vishkanya will be directed by Sonal Joshi. She made her feature directorial debut with the 2023 comedy-drama Sukhee, starring Shilpa Shetty.
Before becoming a director, Joshi worked behind the scenes on several notable projects. Her experience includes working as an assistant director on Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Dhoom 3 and Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha and Jab Harry Met Sejal. She was also associated with the Netflix series Bard of Blood.
With Vishkanya, Joshi is expected to enter a considerably larger fantasy-driven world and explore a genre that requires extensive world-building and visual storytelling.
A Second Dharma Project for Pratibha Ranta
The Rajkummar Rao Pratibha Ranta Vishkanya film will also mark Pratibha’s second association with Dharma Productions.
She previously appeared in Accused, the psychological thriller directed by Anubhuti Kashyap and featuring Konkona Sen Sharma. The project premiered on Netflix earlier in 2026.
Her return to the production house with Vishkanya comes at a time when the actress is building a varied filmography. From the grounded world of Laapataa Ladies to period and dramatic projects and now fantasy horror, her upcoming choices reflect a range of genres.
Vishkanya Shooting Expected to Begin Soon
According to the report, shooting for Vishkanya is expected to begin by the end of 2026. However, the film’s official release date has not been announced yet.
The production is part of Dharma Productions’ expanding theatrical slate, which increasingly includes fantasy, horror, mythology and other high-concept stories.
The studio is already developing projects such as Naagzilla, a fantasy comedy, and Odiyan: The Age of Illusion, a Malayalam period folk thriller. It also has horror projects in development, including one featuring Aditya Roy Kapur.
Dharma Productions Expands Its Genre Slate
The Rajkummar Rao Pratibha Ranta Vishkanya announcement comes as Dharma Productions continues to broaden its upcoming lineup.
Alongside its fantasy and horror projects, the production house is working on Raj Mehta’s Lag Ja Gale, starring Tiger Shroff, Lakshya and Janhvi Kapoor, as well as Prosit Roy’s untitled psychological romance featuring Lakshya and Vedika Pinto.
Dharma has also announced a large-scale spy thriller based on R.N. Kao, the founder of R&AW, and is developing a divine epic centred on the love story of Radha and Krishna.
For now, details about Vishkanya remain limited. The complete cast, first look, release date and detailed storyline are yet to be officially revealed. However, the combination of Rajkummar Rao, Pratibha Ranta and director Sonal Joshi has already made the project one of the upcoming fantasy-oriented films to watch for further updates.
