Choreographer Pony Verma has shared some personal insights into her marriage to actor Prakash Raj, revealing how their 12-year age difference became one of the strengths of their relationship. In a recent conversation, she spoke about the initial concerns raised by her friends, the emotional stability Prakash brought into her life and the close bond she shares with his daughters from his first marriage.
Married since August 2010, the couple have built a family together and welcomed their son, Vedhant, in 2016. Looking back at their relationship, Pony explained why she never considered the age gap a disadvantage.
Pony Verma Explains the 12-Year Age Difference
Pony recalled that several of her friends were unhappy with her decision to marry someone 12 years older than her.
"My friends were mad because I was marrying a man who was 12 years older than me," she recalled.
However, Pony said she felt Prakash's life experiences helped him understand her personality, struggles and perspective. Rather than seeing the age difference as a problem, she believed it allowed him to connect with her on a deeper level.
She explained that Prakash understood where she came from, how she thought and the challenges she had experienced in life.
'Prakash Raj Brought Calmness Into My Life'
One of the most meaningful things Pony shared was how her husband changed her approach towards everyday life.
"There is calmness that Prakash Raj brought into my life," she said.
She explained that his outlook encouraged her to slow down and stop worrying unnecessarily about time, expectations and falling behind in life.
Pony recalled his reassuring attitude, saying that there was no need to rush through everything and that things would eventually work out.
She also said that someone who had experienced the kind of life Prakash had could understand and handle her personality better.
Pony Verma's Bond With Prakash Raj's Daughters
Pony also spoke warmly about her relationship with Prakash Raj's daughters, Pooja and Meghana, from his first marriage to actress Lalitha Kumari.
She revealed that both daughters welcomed her into the family and have continued to share a close relationship with her.
Remembering her wedding ceremony, Pony said the two daughters stood in front of her during the celebrations and actively participated in the rituals, including applying mehendi and haldi to their father.
She said their relationship has remained warm over the years, with the family making an effort to come together for important occasions.
"Every December, we are always together. We are together for every important milestone," she shared.
Her comments highlight the bond the family has maintained over the years and the importance of accepting and supporting one another.
Prakash Raj Was Clear About Marriage From the Beginning
Pony revealed that one of the qualities she appreciated most about Prakash was his honesty. According to her, he never tried to impress her with expensive gifts, extravagant gestures or a flashy lifestyle.
She said he was straightforward and comfortable being himself, which made her appreciate him even more.
Pony also recalled that Prakash was clear about his intentions from the beginning. He wanted a serious, long-term relationship and marriage rather than a casual association.
His clarity and honesty played an important role in her decision to build a life with him.
From Mumbai to Hyderabad: A New Chapter
Pony also revealed that marrying Prakash brought a major change in her lifestyle. Having worked as a choreographer in Mumbai since 2000, she had never imagined leaving the city and settling elsewhere.
However, after marriage, she moved to Hyderabad and gradually made it her home.
She admitted that she had never expected life to take such an unexpected turn, but today she is happy with the decision.
Prakash Raj and Pony Verma married on August 24, 2010, in an intimate Punjabi ceremony attended by family members and close friends. Their son Vedhant was born in 2016. The couple also renewed their wedding vows in 2021 on their 11th anniversary so their son could witness the ceremony.
