Katrina Kaif Was Called a ‘Zero’ Dancer, Farah Khan Defends Her

Katrina Kaif once faced harsh criticism over her dancing skills, with a choreographer reportedly telling her to quit. Farah Khan and Bosco Martis recently recalled how she transformed into one of Bollywood’s most popular dance performers.

Katrina Kaif is now widely recognised for some of Bollywood’s most memorable dance performances. From Sheila Ki Jawaani and Chikni Chameli to Kala Chashma and Kamli, the actress has built a strong reputation for her screen presence and dance skills.

However, her journey was not always easy. During a recent podcast conversation, choreographers Bosco Martis and Farah Khan discussed Katrina’s early days and recalled a particularly harsh comment she received from another choreographer.

Bosco revealed that Katrina had once been told that she was “zero” at dancing and should quit. The choreographer who allegedly made the remark was not named.

Bosco Martis Recalls the Incident

While discussing Katrina’s transformation as a performer, Bosco Martis recalled how hard she worked during the early stages of her career.

According to Bosco, despite putting in considerable effort, Katrina was criticised by a choreographer who told her that she was not good at dancing and should leave it.

The comment appears to have been made during the period when Katrina was still developing her skills and confidence as a performer.

Bosco suggested that such an experience may have created an inner determination in Katrina to prove herself. His recollection highlighted just how different her early perception as a dancer was compared with the reputation she has today.

Farah Khan Says Katrina Was Never Really ‘Zero’

Farah Khan had a very different assessment of Katrina’s early abilities.

Reacting to Bosco’s story, Farah said she did not believe Katrina was actually a “zero” dancer. According to Farah, Katrina may have been around a four or five when she was starting out, but her skills improved dramatically over time.

Farah specifically pointed to Sheila Ki Jawaani as the major turning point. She said Katrina went from being around a four or five to a nine or ten after the song.

The comments underline how much Katrina’s dancing developed through training, practice and experience rather than appearing fully formed from the beginning.

Sheila Ki Jawaani Changed Katrina’s Dance Image

The 2010 song Sheila Ki Jawaani, from Tees Maar Khan, became a major milestone in Katrina Kaif’s career.

Farah Khan recalled that before the song, Katrina was not particularly known as a dancer. She had already appeared in songs such as Touch Me from Race and Just Chill from Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?, but her dancing had not yet become a defining part of her image.

According to Farah, Sheila Ki Jawaani changed that perception.

Bosco also described the song as a game changer for Katrina. The performance became hugely popular and helped establish her as one of Bollywood’s leading female dance performers.

From Sheila to Chikni Chameli and Kala Chashma

Katrina’s transformation did not stop with Sheila Ki Jawaani.

After the success of the song, she continued to deliver high-profile dance performances. Chikni Chameli from Agneepath became another major highlight of her career, while Kala Chashma from Baar Baar Dekho further strengthened her reputation.

Her other popular dance performances include songs such as Kamli, Swag Se Swagat, Afghan Jalebi and Nachde Ne Saare.

Over the years, Katrina’s ability to combine expressions, energy, choreography and screen presence has made her dance numbers particularly popular with Bollywood audiences.

Katrina Kaif Once Spoke About Her Own Struggles

Interestingly, Katrina herself has previously spoken about struggling with confidence when it came to dancing.

In an earlier conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress recalled being told that she could not dance. She said the criticism affected her confidence so much that she started believing she would never become a good dancer.

Katrina credited Bosco Martis with helping change that mindset. According to her, Bosco told her that she had the ability to dance but needed to work on herself.

That encouragement gave her confidence to continue improving instead of accepting the criticism as a final judgment on her abilities.

Katrina’s Journey Shows the Power of Improvement

The story of Katrina Kaif’s dance journey offers an interesting contrast between early criticism and later success.

What one choreographer reportedly dismissed as a lack of ability eventually became one of Katrina’s biggest strengths as a Bollywood performer. Farah Khan’s comments also suggest that Katrina’s improvement was the result of consistent work and development rather than instant talent.

Her journey from struggling with confidence to becoming a familiar face in Bollywood’s biggest dance numbers has therefore become an important part of her career story.

Today, Katrina Kaif is remembered for several iconic performances, making the old “zero dancer” criticism seem very different in hindsight. Her story also highlights how training, confidence and persistence can change a performer’s career.
