Ameesha Patel’s Hesitation Over the Role of a Mother-in-Law
Anil Sharma discussed how Ameesha Patel’s role in Gadar 2 differed significantly from her prominent role in the first film, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. He explained that while her character had substantial screen time in the first film, in Gadar 2, her role was comparatively smaller, and she was cast as the mother-in-law of the protagonist’s wife.
Sharma pointed out that Patel had difficulty accepting the idea of playing a mother-in-law, given the age difference. He emphasized that when an actor plays a mother of a grown-up child, they must eventually play the role of a grandmother or a mother-in-law. “Age plays a role,” said Sharma, stressing that it’s essential for actors to embrace every kind of character as part of their growth.
Anil Sharma’s Perspective on Acting and Versatility
In the interview, Anil Sharma shared his belief that actors need to take on various roles to showcase their versatility. Drawing a parallel with veteran actress Nargis, who portrayed a mother in Mother India at a young age, he encouraged actors to step into diverse roles, irrespective of their age or experience.
“I believe Ameesha worked hard, but as an actor, one must be willing to perform every kind of role,” Sharma added, indicating that it’s crucial for actors to evolve in their craft by taking on roles that may initially seem challenging.
Ameesha Patel on Her Relationship with Director Anil Sharma
While the creative differences were evident during the making of Gadar 2, Ameesha Patel made it clear in a previous interview that despite not speaking with Anil Sharma during the shoot, their professional relationship remained intact. She acknowledged that she held great respect for him, which helped maintain a positive working dynamic.
Ameesha revealed that she refrained from communicating directly with Sharma during the 30-40 days of shooting. However, she understood the director’s communication style and noted that he would relay his messages to her through the assistant director.
