Ajay Devgn is back in action with his upcoming film Chauhaan. The actor has reportedly begun shooting for the action drama in Kargil, Ladakh, marking his return to the mountainous region after 23 years. His previous film shoot in the area was for J. P. Dutta’s 2003 war drama LOC: Kargil.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Devgn arrived in Ladakh a few days before the news emerged and had already started filming important sequences in Kargil. The production team reportedly secured the required permissions in advance and made arrangements for the schedule.
The region’s cold weather and rugged landscape are expected to contribute to the film’s atmosphere. Although the makers have not revealed the specific scenes currently being filmed, the choice of location has generated interest among fans eager to see Devgn in his next action-oriented role.
The shoot also brings a nostalgic connection to the actor’s earlier career, when he worked on a film depicting the Kargil War. This time, he returns to the same region for a new project with a different storyline and creative team.
Ajay Devgn Returns to Ladakh After LOC: Kargil
For Ajay Devgn, Ladakh is not an unfamiliar filming destination. In 2003, he appeared in LOC: Kargil, directed by J. P. Dutta, which portrayed the experiences of Indian soldiers during the 1999 Kargil War.
The film featured a large ensemble cast and focused on the military operation that became a defining moment in modern Indian military history. Devgn’s return to the region after more than two decades creates a connection between two different stages of his film career.
Kargil’s dramatic mountains and challenging weather conditions have often provided filmmakers with striking natural backdrops. For a project such as Chauhaan, filming in the region could help establish a strong visual setting for its action sequences.
However, the makers have not yet disclosed enough plot details to establish how extensively the film will use the location or whether the story directly draws on any particular historical event.
For now, the confirmed development is that filming has begun in Kargil and that Devgn is returning to a region associated with one of his earlier war films.
What Is Chauhaan About?
Chauhaan is an upcoming action drama directed by Neeraj Yadav and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L. Rai and Himanshu Sharma. Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions are backing the project.
The film was officially announced on June 25, 2026, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Devgn’s late father, action director Veeru Devgan.
The announcement video featured the popular song Jumma Chumma De De in the background and ended with the dialogue, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai.” The promotional clip offered an early glimpse of the film’s tone without revealing a complete storyline.
The project also marks Devgn’s first collaboration with filmmaker Aanand L. Rai. The partnership has attracted attention because it brings together an established action star and a filmmaker known for working across different genres.
Although the film’s full cast and detailed plot have not been comprehensively revealed, its title announcement and current shooting schedule have already generated curiosity among audiences.
Chauhaan Release Date: When Will Ajay Devgn’s Film Arrive?
The makers have scheduled Chauhaan for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027. This places the film in the festive-season release window, when major Hindi films often aim to attract audiences to cinemas.
The October release date also follows the pattern of Devgn returning to the big screen around the same period in consecutive years. However, the final release schedule could depend on production progress and any future announcements from the filmmakers.
With shooting now underway in Kargil, the coming months may bring further details about the film’s cast, additional locations, promotional material and story.
The team has not yet announced a complete production timetable, so it remains unclear how long the current Ladakh schedule will continue.
Why Chauhaan Has Become One of Ajay Devgn’s Anticipated Projects
Devgn’s return to action cinema is a major point of interest for fans. The actor has built a long career across action dramas, thrillers, comedies and franchise films, and Chauhaan gives him another opportunity to explore a different action-driven role.
The film’s mountain setting, its dramatic announcement dialogue and the involvement of Aanand L. Rai have all contributed to early curiosity around the project.
Its connection to Ladakh also adds a personal career milestone, bringing Devgn back to a location he last visited for a film shoot more than two decades ago.
Nevertheless, expectations will ultimately depend on the film’s story, performances and execution. Since the makers have kept several details under wraps, audiences will have to wait for more information before judging what the finished project will offer.
Ajay Devgn Moves Ahead With His Next Film
The beginning of Chauhaan’s Kargil schedule marks another step in Ajay Devgn’s busy film career. Returning to Ladakh after 23 years gives the project an interesting connection to LOC: Kargil, while its new creative team and action-drama format distinguish it from his earlier work.
With Neeraj Yadav directing and Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions supporting the project, Chauhaan is now moving forward towards its planned October 2027 theatrical release.
Fans can expect further updates as filming progresses and the makers begin revealing more about the film. Until then, Devgn’s return to Kargil remains the biggest development surrounding the upcoming action drama.
