Bollywood Mascot: Vikrant Massey has become a household name, thanks to his powerful performances, especially his iconic role as
Bablu Pandit in the hit series
Mirzapur. While the actor continues to make waves with his upcoming film
The Sabarmati Report, he recently shared an interesting and eye-opening experience from his time working on
Mirzapur, which taught him a valuable lesson about contracts and script reading.
A Big Lesson from Mirzapur
In a recent interview with
Faye D'Souza, Vikrant revealed a major misunderstanding he had while signing on for
Mirzapur. He disclosed that he wasn't initially aware that his character,
Bablu Pandit, would be killed off at the end of Season 1. If he had known this, he admitted, he would have thought long and hard before accepting the role. Vikrant explained that he was never provided with the full script before signing the contract, leading to the shocking revelation about his character's fate.

“I didn’t know that my character would be killed off at the end of Season 1,” Vikrant shared. “If I had known, I would have really considered whether I wanted to take it up. It was a huge learning experience for me.”
This miscommunication about the character arc was a significant moment in Vikrant’s career, and he mentioned that after
Mirzapur, he always ensures to read the entire script before committing to any project. He emphasized that he no longer signs a contract without fully understanding what his role entails.
Trust from Excel Entertainment
Vikrant also reflected on his experience working with the production house
Excel Entertainment, which produced
Mirzapur. He shared that the misunderstanding during
Mirzapur was due to the show’s long format, which caused the writing process to continue during filming. However, he credits Excel Entertainment for believing in him early in his career, especially when they gave him a role in
Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do.

Vikrant expressed his gratitude towards
Zoya Akhtar,
Farhan Akhtar, and
Ritesh Sidhwani for giving him an opportunity when he was relatively new in the industry. He said, “They gave me the opportunity and support when no one else was there. Excel Entertainment has always been supportive of my work, and I’m grateful for that.”
