Actress Tanushree Dutta has sparked controversy after questioning reports of veteran actor Nana Patekar’s death during an Instagram Live session. She raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding his reported demise and alleged that the body cremated was not his.
Her remarks have attracted attention because they concern a major Bollywood personality whose death was widely reported. However, it is important to distinguish Tanushree’s allegations from verified information: her claims about a staged death have not been substantiated by evidence.
According to reports published on October 13, Tanushree questioned why photographs or videos showing Nana’s body had not circulated publicly and why his last rites were performed late at night. She also questioned the absence of a widely reported public prayer meeting for the actor.
1. Why Tanushree Dutta Called Nana Patekar’s Death Fake
During the livestream, Tanushree questioned whether the body cremated actually belonged to Nana Patekar. She argued that images or videos of deceased celebrities often emerge in the media and expressed suspicion that no such footage of Nana had become publicly available.
She also questioned the timing of the cremation and whether the family had been able to see the actor’s face before the last rites.
Taking her claims further, Tanushree alleged that Nana might still be alive in Singapore or Malaysia. She suggested that the reported death could have been staged, but she did not provide independently verified evidence to establish this claim.
Her comments quickly became a subject of online discussion, with several entertainment outlets reporting on the controversy.
2. Tanushree Demands a DNA Test
Tanushree also called for a DNA test to establish the identity of the person whose body was cremated. She suggested that authorities should investigate her suspicions and examine whether the actor could have changed his appearance.
She further urged authorities in Singapore, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Sudan to issue lookout notices, based on her allegation that Nana could be living abroad.
These demands were made during her social media livestream. No verified investigation or official finding confirming her theory has been established in the reports reviewed.
A DNA test can help establish biological identity in appropriate circumstances, but a demand for testing does not itself demonstrate that a death was faked.
3. She Also Questions the Reported State Honours
Another point raised by Tanushree concerned reports that Nana Patekar had received state honours during his last rites.
She questioned the timing and procedure, arguing that the circumstances surrounding the cremation required clarification. She also expressed surprise that a widely attended public prayer meeting had not been reported.
However, questions about funeral arrangements or the availability of public photographs do not, on their own, establish that a death report is false.
The allegations remain Tanushree’s personal claims and should not be presented as confirmed facts without credible supporting evidence.
4. Nana Patekar’s Reported Death and Last Rites
News reports published on October 13 stated that Nana Patekar died on October 8, 2026, at the age of 75, reportedly following a cardiac arrest. His last rites were reported to have taken place at his farmhouse in Donje, near Pune.
Reports also stated that the actor’s death was confirmed by people close to him and that his last rites were performed with state honours.
These reported details contradict Tanushree’s suggestion that the death was staged. Her claims about the identity of the cremated body have not been independently established, and there is no verified evidence in the reports reviewed that Nana is alive abroad.
5. Tanushree Dutta and Nana Patekar’s Earlier Controversy
Tanushree and Nana have a history of public controversy dating back to allegations she made in 2008 concerning an incident on the set of Horn 'Ok' Pleassss. The issue returned to national attention in 2018, when Tanushree spoke about the alleged incident during the #MeToo movement in India.
Nana denied the sexual harassment allegations, and Mumbai Police filed a closure report in 2019, stating that there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the case.
The earlier dispute forms part of the background to the renewed attention surrounding Tanushree’s latest remarks. However, the history of their disagreement does not establish the truth of her present claims about Nana’s reported death.
Why the Allegations Need Careful Verification
Tanushree Dutta’s statements have generated headlines because they question the reported death of a prominent actor. Yet claims involving a person’s death, identity and alleged criminal conduct require reliable evidence and official confirmation.
At present, her assertions that Nana Patekar faked his death, that another person’s body was cremated and that he is living abroad remain unverified. The reported death and funeral arrangements have been covered by multiple news organisations, and no credible evidence has been presented in the reports reviewed to support the claim that the actor is alive.
