Tahir Raj Bhasin is known for bringing intensity to his performances, particularly through characters that often carry darker or morally complicated shades. However, the actor is now preparing to show audiences a very different side of himself with Pal Bhar Ke Liye, Vikram Phadnis’ Hindi directorial debut.
In a recent conversation, Tahir opened up about the film, his character and his experience of working with the fashion designer-turned-filmmaker. According to the actor, the project allowed him to move away from the anti-hero roles he has frequently played and explore a much softer emotional space.
A Story Rooted in Mental Health and Personal Experience
Pal Bhar Ke Liye is not being presented as a conventional Bollywood drama. Tahir describes it as a heartfelt and emotional story that deals with mental health in an approachable manner.
What makes the film even more personal is its connection to Vikram Phadnis’ own family. The director has previously revealed that the story was inspired by the final four years of his late mother’s life. Phadnis has said that he wanted to tell the story honestly rather than rely heavily on cinematic liberties.
For Tahir, this emotional foundation made the project particularly meaningful.
From Anti-Heroes to a Softer Character
Tahir’s filmography includes several intense performances, and his debut in Mardaani saw him play an antagonist. He later continued exploring darker and complex characters in projects across films and streaming platforms.
Pal Bhar Ke Liye offered him something different.
The actor has described his character as an emotional role that he had never attempted before. Rather than playing another intense anti-hero, he gets to portray a character who brings a sense of hope and positivity into the story.
That shift appears to be one of the biggest reasons Tahir connected with the project. He has previously said that the role pushed him beyond familiar territory and allowed him to explore another shade of his craft.
Why Vikram Phadnis Impressed Tahir
Tahir also had high praise for Vikram Phadnis’ approach to filmmaking.
Although Pal Bhar Ke Liye marks Phadnis’ Hindi directorial debut, Tahir said he never felt that he was working with someone inexperienced behind the camera. Phadnis already has two Marathi films—Hrudayantar and Smile Please—to his credit.
According to Tahir, Phadnis brought the same eye for detail and aesthetics that made him successful in fashion into filmmaking. The actor particularly appreciated the director’s clarity about how much footage and performance he wanted from every scene.
For an actor, that kind of clarity can make the shooting process considerably smoother.
Tahir Says the Collaboration Felt Natural
Tahir also recalled that working with a new director usually requires some time for the actor and filmmaker to understand each other’s rhythm. With Phadnis, however, he said the process happened surprisingly quickly.

The actor credited the director’s understanding of his characters and the world of the film for making their collaboration enjoyable. He also expressed hope that Pal Bhar Ke Liye would become the beginning of a longer filmmaking journey for Phadnis.
Pal Bhar Ke Liye Has Already Reached an International Audience
The film has already made its international festival debut. Pal Bhar Ke Liye was screened at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in August, where it received a positive response, according to Tahir.
The cast includes Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saiyami Kher and Viineet Kumar Siingh. The project is particularly significant for Phadnis, who is making his Hindi directorial debut after establishing himself as a designer and directing two Marathi films.
For Tahir, meanwhile, the film represents more than just another project. It gives him an opportunity to challenge the image audiences have developed around his performances and demonstrate a gentler, more emotional side of his acting.
After his recent appearance in Shaque: Trust No One, the actor now has another intriguing performance waiting to be discovered. With a deeply personal story, a filmmaker making his Hindi debut and a role that takes Tahir into unfamiliar territory, Pal Bhar Ke Liye could mark an interesting new chapter in his career.
