Actor Suhail Nayyar has spoken out in support of the team behind Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated film Ramayana, asking audiences to encourage the filmmakers rather than place excessive pressure on them. In a recent interview with India Today, the actor discussed the scale of the production, the work involved in creating its visual effects and the dedication of the young Indian artists working behind the scenes.
The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, is being developed as a two-part cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic. With expectations running high, Nayyar believes it is important to recognise the effort involved in bringing such a culturally significant story to the screen.
Suhail Nayyar Says Ramayana Deserves Encouragement
Nayyar believes the team working on Ramayana is facing considerable pressure because of the film’s scale and the expectations surrounding its adaptation.
The actor said audiences should also consider the intentions and hard work of the people involved rather than focusing exclusively on criticism. Having experienced the production process himself, he said he had seen how the team approaches the material and conducts itself on set.
Comparing the situation to a cricket team playing a World Cup final, Nayyar explained that people should offer encouragement and support rather than increase the pressure on those involved.
His comments come amid ongoing online discussions about the film’s visuals and the challenge of adapting one of India’s most widely known epics for a modern cinematic audience.
Young Indian VFX Artists Are Working on the Film
One of Nayyar’s main points concerned the young Indian artists contributing to the film’s visual effects.
The actor highlighted that some members of the VFX team are reportedly between 19 and 25 years old and are working hard on a production of exceptional scale. He stressed that visual effects are only one part of the extensive effort required to complete the film.
Creating a fantasy world inspired by the Ramayana involves more than designing impressive images. It requires collaboration across visual effects, cinematography, production design, sound, costumes and other technical departments.
Nayyar’s remarks draw attention to the people whose work may not always be visible to audiences but plays a significant role in shaping the final cinematic experience.
‘You Don’t Choose Ramayana, It Chooses You’
Nayyar also spoke about how he became part of the project. According to the actor, director Nitesh Tiwari noticed his performance in Saare Jahan Achha, released in 2025, after which casting director Mukesh Chhabra’s team approached his agency about the role.

Nayyar said he immediately agreed when he heard about the opportunity. Describing the experience as something special, he remarked that a project like Ramayana feels as though it chooses the actor.
He also revealed that working with Tiwari had been a professional ambition since he watched Dangal in 2016. Although he did not get the opportunity to collaborate with the filmmaker on Chhichhore or Bawaal, he is now part of the director’s ambitious mythological epic.
Nayyar plays Sugriva, the vanara king who becomes an important ally of Lord Rama in the battle against Ravana.
The Actor Is Impressed by Ramayana’s Scale and Visuals
Nayyar described the production as a distinctive experience, particularly because of the way its world is being created. He said he was impressed by the visuals, the framing and the approach to portraying his character.
The actor explained that the role required him to work on elements such as physicality and voice, helping him develop a character different from those he has played previously.
He also said he was excited to see how the completed film would present his performance to audiences.
The production brings together several prominent names from Indian and international cinema. Nitesh Tiwari directs the film, Pankaj Kumar serves as cinematographer, and the music is being composed by AR Rahman in collaboration with Hans Zimmer.
For Nayyar, being part of a project involving such an extensive creative team has made the experience particularly memorable.
Ramayana VFX Debate and the Expectations Surrounding the Film
The film’s visual effects have attracted considerable discussion since the release of its promotional material. While some viewers have questioned aspects of the visuals, the makers have emphasised the scale and complexity of the work involved.
Producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari have previously discussed the challenges of completing the effects for a project of this size. They have also highlighted the importance of judging the finished film in the context of its intended cinematic presentation.
Nayyar’s comments add another perspective to the conversation, focusing on the dedication of the artists and technicians rather than the online debate alone.
His remarks do not suggest that audiences should avoid criticism. Instead, they underline the importance of recognising the work involved while allowing viewers to form their own opinions about the finished product.
When Will Ramayana Release?
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, alongside a large ensemble cast.
The first part is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, with the second part planned for Diwali 2027.
As anticipation builds, Nayyar’s message highlights the collective effort behind the production. For the actor, the opportunity to contribute to a story with such a longstanding cultural presence is a source of pride, and he hopes audiences will approach the film with encouragement as well as high expectations.
