Sridevi Kapoor Chowk Unveiled at Lokhandwala: A Tribute with Family Present

In a heartfelt gesture, a junction in Mumbai’s Lokhandwala area has been named “Sridevi Kapoor Chowk” to honor the legacy of the late actress Sridevi. This road holds a deep connection with the actress — she used to walk here during her lifetime, and it was along this route that her final journey passed. Additionally, Sridevi resided in the nearby Green Acres Tower, adding to the sentimental value of the location.

Emotional Inauguration with Family and Friends

The inauguration event was marked by the presence of Sridevi’s husband, renowned filmmaker Boney Kapoor, along with their younger daughter, Khushi Kapoor, and veteran actress Shabana Azmi. The naming of the junction was done in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and received support from local residents, reflecting the community’s love and respect for the iconic actress.

The Tragic Loss of Sridevi in 2018

Sridevi passed away on the night of February 24, 2018, at around 11:30 PM in Room 2201 of the Jumeirah Emirates Tower Hotel in Dubai. However, the news of her death reached India by the early hours of February 25. The actress had traveled to Dubai on February 20 to attend the wedding of her nephew, Mohit Marwah, along with her family. While the Kapoor family returned to Mumbai on February 22, Sridevi decided to stay back for a short vacation.

Two days later, Boney Kapoor flew to Dubai to surprise his wife and take her out for dinner. The couple spent about half an hour chatting before Sridevi went to freshen up in the bathroom. After waiting for about 15 minutes and receiving no response to his calls, Boney entered the bathroom, only to find Sridevi submerged in the bathtub. Initially, her death was believed to be due to cardiac arrest.
