Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt May Reunite With Inshallah Revival

Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt are reportedly in talks to revive their long-awaited film Inshallah after Love & War. The project, originally announced with Salman Khan, was shelved in 2019 following reported creative differences.

Nearly seven years after Inshallah was shelved, the much-discussed Sanjay Leela Bhansali project is once again back in the spotlight. According to a fresh Mid-Day report, Bhansali and actress Alia Bhatt have reportedly begun conversations about revisiting the romantic drama after completing work on their upcoming film Love & War.

The development is significant because Inshallah was originally announced in 2019 as a collaboration between Bhansali, Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt. The film was eventually shelved before production could properly begin, leaving fans wondering for years whether Bhansali would ever return to the project.

However, the latest buzz should still be treated as an unconfirmed industry report. Bhansali had not responded to Mid-Day's request for comment at the time of publication.

What Happened to Salman Khan’s Inshallah?

Inshallah was officially announced in 2019 with Salman Khan and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. Bhansali Productions subsequently confirmed that the project would not go ahead “for now.”

Reports at the time suggested that creative differences between Bhansali and Salman were behind the decision. According to a 2019 Mid-Day report, the disagreement reportedly involved the direction of the story and the treatment of the climax, with Bhansali wanting to maintain the project as a romantic drama while Salman was said to have wanted a more commercial entertainer. These details were reported by sources and were not officially confirmed by both parties.

The shelving of the film eventually led to another important collaboration between Bhansali and Alia.

Inshallah Led to Gangubai Kathiawadi

After Inshallah was shelved, Bhansali offered Alia Bhatt the lead role in Gangubai Kathiawadi. The decision completely changed the trajectory of their professional relationship.

Gangubai Kathiawadi eventually became one of Alia's most acclaimed performances and established her as a major actor in Bhansali's cinematic world.

Bhansali later recalled that Alia was deeply affected when Inshallah was shelved. According to his earlier account, she was extremely upset before he approached her with the role of Gangubai.

Alia Bhatt Has Previously Expressed Hope for Inshallah

Interestingly, Alia herself has previously spoken positively about the possibility of Inshallah returning.

In a 2024 interview, she said she hoped Bhansali would eventually make the film because she considered it a “brilliant story” and a lovely love story. When asked about the possibility of Salman being replaced, Alia indicated that she trusted Bhansali's decision regarding what would be best for the film.

Her earlier comments make the latest report particularly interesting, as the actress has never appeared to completely close the door on the project.

What Happens to Salman Khan’s Role?

One of the biggest questions surrounding an Inshallah revival is the male lead.

The original version was designed around Salman Khan opposite Alia Bhatt. However, reports in 2026 have suggested that the project could be substantially reworked if revived.

An earlier Mid-Day report from April 2026 claimed that Shah Rukh Khan could step into the role previously associated with Salman, with Alia potentially remaining part of the film. That report also suggested that Bhansali was considering a more mature version of the romance.

However, the latest Mid-Day report focuses on conversations between Bhansali and Alia and does not officially confirm Shah Rukh Khan or any other replacement for Salman. Therefore, the final casting remains unclear.

Alia Bhatt and Bhansali’s Third Collaboration?

If the project moves ahead with Alia, Inshallah would become another major collaboration between the actress and Bhansali.

Their first completed film together was Gangubai Kathiawadi. They are now working together again on Love & War, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

The film has completed its principal shoot and is currently moving through post-production, with a reported theatrical release date of January 21, 2027.

That means an Inshallah reunion would potentially mark Alia and Bhansali's third film together, making their creative partnership one of the most closely followed actor-director collaborations in contemporary Hindi cinema.

Will Inshallah Finally Go on Floors?

For now, there is no official announcement confirming that Inshallah has been revived or that filming has been scheduled.

The latest report indicates that conversations are taking place, but several important details—including the final cast, script changes, production timeline and release date—remain unknown.

After years of speculation, however, the possibility of Bhansali returning to Inshallah has once again generated excitement among Bollywood audiences. If the filmmaker and Alia do decide to move forward after Love & War, the project could become one of the industry's most anticipated upcoming films.

For now, fans will have to wait for an official word from Bhansali Productions or the principal cast before treating the revival as confirmed.
