Saba Ali Khan has spoken about her relationship with Amrita Singh, recalling the affection, guidance and support she received from her brother Saif Ali Khan's former wife. In a recent conversation with YouTuber Siddharth Kannan, Saba described Amrita as someone who was much more than just her sister-in-law. She said the actress played an important role in her life during her younger years and often guided her like an elder sister.
Saba also opened up about how their relationship changed after Saif and Amrita separated in 2004. While the two are not as close as they once were, she clarified that there is no bitterness between them. She also expressed her affection for Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif's current wife, making it clear that she shares a positive equation with both women.
Saba Ali Khan Says Amrita Singh Was Like a Motherly Figure
Recalling her childhood, Saba explained that she was just 15 years old when Saif married Amrita in 1991. At that age, Amrita became an important presence in her life and offered guidance that Saba could sometimes find difficult to seek from her own mother.

Speaking about Amrita, Saba said, “I found her to be very sorted. I liked her. I was fine with her. I love Bebo. That's clear. My loyalties are exactly where they are meant to be. But, she (Amrita) was good with me too.”
She further explained that Amrita knew how to correct her without making her feel uncomfortable. While her mother could be strict, Amrita would often offer similar advice in a more approachable manner.
Saba described her as a motherly figure who made it easier for her to discuss things and seek guidance. The relationship was particularly meaningful during her teenage years, when she was still learning and figuring out different aspects of life.
Amrita Singh Also Gave Saba Fashion Advice
Saba also recalled Amrita's interest in her dressing style. According to her, the actress would regularly notice what she wore and offer suggestions about her fashion choices.
She remembered that Amrita would question combinations that did not look right to her, such as wearing a blue bag with a pink dress. Saba said she would make an effort to dress appropriately whenever she knew she was going to meet Amrita because she knew her sister-in-law would notice the details.
The anecdote offered a glimpse into their everyday relationship. Amrita's guidance was not limited to major life decisions; she also paid attention to small things and helped Saba develop her personal style.
For Saba, these memories remain an important part of the bond they shared before Saif and Amrita's marriage came to an end.
How Saif and Amrita's Divorce Changed Their Relationship
Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh ended their marriage in 2004 after 13 years together. Their separation also changed the equation between Amrita and members of Saif's family, including Saba.

During the interview, Saba explained that Amrita may have needed some distance and personal space after the separation. As a result, the closeness they once shared gradually changed.
However, Saba emphasised that there are no hard feelings between them. Whenever they meet, they continue to greet each other warmly and maintain a cordial relationship. She also enjoys meeting Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, the children of Saif and Amrita.
Her comments suggest that although circumstances changed after the divorce, she continues to remember the relationship with affection and respect.
Saba Says She Loves Kareena Kapoor Khan Too
During the same conversation, Saba also spoke about her relationship with Kareena Kapoor Khan. She openly expressed her affection for her sister-in-law and said that her loyalties were clear.

Kareena married Saif in October 2012, eight years after his separation from Amrita. The couple have two sons, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan.
Saba was also asked whether she regularly accompanies Saif and Kareena to Bollywood parties and film premieres. She explained that she used to attend such gatherings more frequently when Saif was married to Amrita. However, she now attends fewer industry events, partly because Saif and Kareena themselves do not regularly visit film parties or premieres.
Her remarks highlighted that she maintains her own relationship with both sides of the family without allowing the past to define her present equation with them.
Saba and Soha Did Not Attend Saif and Amrita's Wedding
Saba Ali Khan conversation also brings back an interesting detail about Saif and Amrita's wedding. In an earlier discussion on Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi's show Double Date, Saba and her sister Soha Ali Khan revealed that neither of them attended the wedding.
Saba Ali Khan was 15 and Soha was 13 when Saif and Amrita got married in 1991. The sisters recalled that they were still in school when they received news of the marriage.
Saba Ali Khan remembered being called to the principal's office, where their parents reportedly instructed them not to discuss the news with anyone. The sisters also recalled that the wedding took place at short notice.
Saif was 21 and Amrita was 33 at the time of their marriage. The couple later welcomed two children, Sara and Ibrahim, before separating in 2004.
A Bond That Remains Respectful Despite the Distance
Saba Ali Khan latest comments offer a personal perspective on how relationships within a family can change after a separation. Although she and Amrita are no longer as close as they were during Saif's marriage, Saba continues to remember the actress as someone who supported and guided her.
Her remarks also make it clear that affection for Amrita does not affect her relationship with Kareena. Instead, she appears comfortable acknowledging the importance both women have had in different phases of her family's life.
For Saba, the memories of Amrita's guidance remain meaningful, even though time and changing family circumstances have altered their relationship.
