A potential box-office clash between two major Indian films has taken an unexpected turn. Ranbir Kapoor reportedly tipped off filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga about the possible delay of Ramayana: Part 2, helping Prabhas’ upcoming action thriller Spirit secure the Diwali 2027 release window.
According to a report published by Bollywood Hungama on October 24, Ranbir was aware that the second instalment of Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic might not arrive on its originally anticipated schedule. The report claims that once the actor received confirmation of the possible delay, he contacted Vanga, his director from the 2023 blockbuster Animal.
A source quoted by the publication suggested that the communication helped Vanga make a quick decision about the release date of Spirit. The account has not been independently confirmed by Ranbir, Vanga or the makers of either film.
Why Ramayana 2 May Move to Diwali 2028
The second instalment of Ramayana was previously expected to release during Diwali 2027. However, recent reports suggest that the production may require additional time, particularly for its large-scale battle sequences.
The film is being mounted as an ambitious adaptation of the Indian epic, with the second part expected to feature the major conflict between Lord Ram and Ravana. According to media reports, the filmmakers want to devote more time to action design, filming and visual effects to achieve the scale they envision.
Producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari are reportedly considering Diwali 2028 as a possible release window. However, the makers have not officially confirmed the revised date, so the postponement should still be treated as a report rather than a final announcement.
The first instalment of Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, is scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 5, 2026.
Spirit Grabs the Diwali 2027 Release Window
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has announced that Spirit, starring Prabhas, will release worldwide on October 29, 2027. The date places the film in the lucrative Diwali festive period, when audiences traditionally turn out for major theatrical releases.
The film was earlier scheduled for March 5, 2027, before its release was moved to the festive window. According to the report, the possible delay of Ramayana 2 gave the team an opportunity to secure a high-profile date without facing the anticipated direct competition from Ranbir Kapoor’s epic.
Producer Bhushan Kumar, who is backing Spirit with Vanga, reportedly agreed with the decision. The film is expected to feature Prabhas in the lead, alongside Triptii Dimri, Vivek Oberoi and Prakash Raj.
A major festive release can offer a film access to a wider audience and premium screens. However, its commercial prospects will also depend on the film’s readiness, marketing campaign and competition from other releases announced for the same period.
Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Friendship
The report also challenges speculation that the release schedules could create tension between Ranbir and Vanga. The two previously collaborated on Animal, which became a major box-office success and generated extensive discussion about its story and characters.
Their professional association has continued to attract attention, especially as both are connected to highly anticipated upcoming projects.
According to the source quoted by Bollywood Hungama, Ranbir and Vanga remain on good terms, and the actor’s reported call was intended to share information rather than create a competitive advantage at anyone’s expense.
Neither Ranbir nor Vanga has publicly confirmed the reported conversation. Consequently, the account of how Spirit secured its release date remains based on media reporting.
Could the Box-Office Clash Still Happen?
If Ramayana: Part 2 moves to Diwali 2028, Spirit would no longer face the reported clash with Ranbir’s film in 2027. That could give the Prabhas-starrer a clearer run during one of the busiest periods on the Indian theatrical calendar.
However, a new release date for Ramayana 2 has not yet been officially announced. Until the producers confirm the schedule, the possibility of changes remains open.
The situation illustrates how release planning can shift when large productions require more time. It also highlights the importance of communication between filmmakers when multiple high-profile films target the same festive weekend.
For now, Spirit has an announced worldwide release date of October 29, 2027, while reports of Ramayana 2 moving to Diwali 2028 remain unconfirmed. An official update from the Ramayana team will determine whether the anticipated clash has been avoided.
