Actor Ranbir Kapoor has grabbed attention with an interesting remark about ancient Indian mythology and modern technology. During the promotions of his upcoming film Ramayana, the actor compared the legendary Pushpak Vimana with Elon Musk’s flying car concept, suggesting that India had imagined such a vehicle thousands of years ago.
The comment came during a special conversation with television presenter Suma Kanakala, where Ranbir was joined by his co-stars Ravi Dubey, Rakul Preet Singh, Yash and director Nitesh Tiwari. The discussion focused on the film’s visual world, its mythological elements and the creative process behind bringing the epic to the big screen.
What Ranbir Kapoor Said About Elon Musk
While discussing the remarkable weapons and creations described in the Ramayana, Ranbir brought up Elon Musk’s recent presentation of the Tesla Roadster. Referring to the vehicle as a flying car, the actor said, “Elon Musk recently invented a flying car. I think India did it 5,000 years ago!”

His remark was met with applause from those present during the conversation. Ranbir was referring to the Pushpak Vimana, the mythical flying vehicle described in the ancient Indian epic.
The comparison quickly attracted attention online, with viewers discussing the actor’s comment and the connection he drew between the imagination of ancient mythology and present-day technological ambitions.
What Is the Pushpak Vimana?
The Pushpak Vimana is one of the best-known mythical creations associated with the Ramayana. It is described as a magnificent flying palace or aerial chariot capable of travelling through the sky.
According to the epic's traditional account, the celestial architect Vishwakarma created the Vimana for Lord Brahma, who later gifted it to Kubera, the god of wealth. Ravana subsequently took possession of it after defeating Kubera.
The Pushpak Vimana is also associated with Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after the defeat of Ravana. In the epic, the vehicle is described as capable of travelling at the speed of thought and accommodating passengers according to their needs.
Ranbir’s reference to this legendary vehicle offered a memorable moment during the film’s promotional campaign, bringing an ancient mythological idea into a contemporary conversation about technology.
Nitesh Tiwari Reveals Two-Year Design Process
The Pushpak Vimana is also an important visual element in the upcoming film. Director Nitesh Tiwari revealed during the conversation that the production team spent close to two years finalising its design.
According to the filmmaker, the appearance of the Vimana changed during the development process. These changes also affected the planning of certain action sequences, particularly the fight involving Ravana and Jatayu.
Tiwari explained that the team initially imagined the flying vehicle differently and choreographed parts of the sequence around that design. Once the final appearance was settled, the filmmakers had to revisit and adjust the choreography through several iterations.
The process highlights the scale of visual planning involved in adapting a well-known epic for a modern cinematic audience.
