Ramayana Part 2 Confirmed for Diwali 2028: Sunny Deol’s Hanuman Entry Sets Up Sequel

The makers of Ranbir Kapoor and Yash-starrer Ramayana have officially confirmed Diwali 2028 as the release window for Part 2. The announcement comes at the end of the first instalment, which also features a special appearance by Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman.

The much-awaited cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana has delivered a major surprise for audiences. The makers have officially confirmed that Ramayana: Part 2 will arrive in cinemas on Diwali 2028. The announcement comes towards the end of the first instalment, giving audiences an important update about the next chapter of the ambitious two-part project.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The first instalment reached cinemas on November 5, 2026, and its concluding moments have now set the stage for the sequel.

Ramayana Part 2 Gets an Official Diwali 2028 Release Window

The second instalment was initially planned for a Diwali 2027 release. However, Bollywood Hungama had reported on October 23 that the film's release was being pushed by a year to Diwali 2028.

That report has now been confirmed through the announcement featured at the end of Part 1. The new release window gives the production team additional time to complete the next chapter of the epic on the scale envisioned by the filmmakers.

The decision is particularly significant because the second instalment is expected to explore the larger conflict between Lord Ram and Ravana. Its central narrative is likely to include the events leading to the great battle of Lanka, making the sequel a crucial part of the overall story.

Sunny Deol’s Entry as Lord Hanuman Adds to the Surprise

The release-date announcement is not the only major moment in the film's closing sequence. Sunny Deol makes a grand appearance as Lord Hanuman during the concluding moments, including the end credits.

His introduction provides a glimpse of what audiences can expect from the next instalment. Hanuman's role is central to the Ramayana narrative, particularly in the events surrounding the search for Sita and the eventual battle against Ravana.

The makers appear to have used the first film's ending to build anticipation for the sequel, giving viewers both a major character reveal and a confirmed release window. The approach also creates a clear connection between the two instalments.

Why Has Ramayana Part 2 Been Delayed?

The additional year is linked to the scale of the production and the time required to complete the second film. In its earlier report, Bollywood Hungama quoted a source suggesting that the sequel needed more shooting time, particularly because its larger war sequences required extensive planning.

The source indicated that producer Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari wanted to develop original action sequences rather than compromise on the film's ambition.

Namit has also spoken publicly about the decision to give the second instalment more time. In an interview with E! News, he explained that the team did not want to rush the grand finale and believed the additional year was necessary to do justice to a film of this scale.

The producer's comments suggest that the delay is intended to give the filmmakers enough room to deliver the story as they have envisioned it.

Could Ramayana Become a Trilogy?

Another interesting development surrounding the franchise is the possibility of a third instalment. Ramayana was initially conceived as a trilogy before the filmmakers decided to tell the story across two films.

Namit Malhotra has indicated that the team could revisit the original plan after considering audience feedback. The final decision would depend on how viewers respond to the films and whether the filmmakers feel additional material is necessary.

However, a third film has not been officially confirmed. For now, the makers have announced the two-part structure, with the second instalment scheduled for Diwali 2028.

What to Expect From the Next Chapter

With Part 1 introducing the central characters and setting up the larger conflict, the sequel is expected to take the story towards its most dramatic events. The battle between Ram's forces and Ravana's kingdom is likely to be a major attraction.

Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash, the franchise also features Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Their characters are expected to play important roles as the story progresses.

The confirmation of the Diwali 2028 release date gives fans a clearer timeline for the next chapter. With Sunny Deol's appearance adding to the excitement, the makers have ensured that the first film ends with a strong lead-in to the sequel.

For now, audiences will have to wait until Diwali 2028 to see how Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra bring the epic's grand finale to the big screen.
