Bollywood News: The much-awaited Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash is reportedly heading for another change in its theatrical release strategy. According to a fresh Bollywood Hungama report, the makers are planning to release the epic worldwide on Thursday, November 5, 2026, three days before Diwali. The report says stakeholders are largely on board with the proposal, although final approval and an official announcement are still awaited.
Ramayana Release Date Could Shift To November 5
The proposed November 5 release would mark another change for Ramayana. Earlier reports had indicated that the film would release overseas on November 6, while the Indian theatrical release was planned for November 8, coinciding with Diwali.
The latest plan, however, is to make the film available in India and overseas on the same day. If approved, audiences around the world would get to watch the Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi starrer from November 5 itself.
Interestingly, the film’s international promotional material is already carrying the November 5 date. Sony Pictures’ official trailer listing also states that Ramayana is coming to cinemas on November 5, 2026.
Why A Pre-Diwali Release Is Significant
A November 5 release would place Ramayana three days ahead of Diwali, which falls on November 8 this year. The Bollywood Hungama report describes the proposed strategy as an unusual move compared with the release pattern followed by many major Diwali films in recent years.
The thinking behind the plan is to allow the film to build momentum before the main festive period. Instead of opening directly around Diwali, Ramayana would have several days in theatres before the festival and could then benefit from the holiday period that follows.
Ranbir Kapoor Plays Lord Rama
Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, with Sai Pallavi portraying Sita. Yash plays Ravana, while Sunny Deol is set to appear as Lord Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, best known for Dangal. Producer Namit Malhotra is backing the ambitious project, which is being developed as a two-part cinematic saga.

Another major attraction of Ramayana is its music. The film features a score created by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, bringing together two internationally recognised composers for the epic.
The project is also being supported by DNEG, the visual effects company associated with Namit Malhotra. The production is designed as a global cinematic spectacle, with the film planned for release in IMAX as well.

The release strategy for Ramayana has changed several times. Bollywood Hungama previously reported that the film would release worldwide on November 6. Producer Namit Malhotra later indicated that the international release would take place on November 6, while Indian audiences would see the film on November 8.
The proposed November 5 plan would therefore eliminate the two-day gap between international and Indian audiences.
