The much-awaited mythological epic Ramayana has started its theatrical journey on a strong note. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana, the film has witnessed a significant jump in its opening-day collections as audiences continued to arrive at cinemas throughout November 5.
According to a box office update published by Bollywood Hungama at 5:35 PM, the film crossed ₹40 crore in Day 1 collections by 5 PM. This represents a substantial rise from the ₹20 crore reported by noon. The film also recorded 37% occupancy across evening shows, indicating an improvement in audience turnout as the day progressed.
With evening and night screenings still underway at the time of the report, the film was expected to add considerably to its opening-day total.
Ramayana Box Office Collection Sees a Big Jump
The film's opening-day performance gained momentum after the afternoon period. Its reported collection increased from ₹20 crore by noon to more than ₹40 crore by 5 PM, reflecting stronger audience turnout during the later shows.
The evening occupancy figure of 37% also suggested that the film was attracting viewers beyond its morning screenings.
The presence of Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, along with the scale of the production, has made Ramayana one of the most anticipated theatrical releases of the year. Its advance booking performance had already created considerable expectations before the film reached cinemas.

However, the ₹40 crore figure is an early trade update and should not be treated as the final opening-day collection. The final number will depend on the performance of evening and night shows as well as the box office figures reported after the day's screenings conclude.
Bengaluru Leads City-Wise Collections
Bengaluru emerged as the leading city in Bollywood Hungama's 5 PM report. The city recorded ₹2.36 crore in gross collections and ₹2.05 crore in net collections.
A total of 50,806 tickets were sold across 315 shows, with occupancy reaching 47.7%. Bengaluru's contribution stood at 5% of the reported total.
Mumbai followed with ₹1.49 crore gross and ₹1.30 crore net. The city sold 27,170 tickets across 513 shows, recording an occupancy of 22.6%.
The figures indicate that the film performed particularly well in Bengaluru, where Yash's popularity may have helped attract audiences. The actor, known for the KGF franchise, has a substantial fan following in Karnataka.
Maharashtra and Karnataka Lead State-Wise Performance
Maharashtra topped the state-wise chart in the same report, collecting ₹4.08 crore gross and ₹3.55 crore net. The state sold 87,853 tickets across 1,437 shows, contributing 8.7% of the total, with occupancy at 26%.
Karnataka followed closely with ₹3.49 crore gross and ₹3.04 crore net. Despite having only 481 shows in the reported data, the state recorded an impressive 54% occupancy after selling 83,651 tickets.
The National Capital Region (NCR) occupied the third position, with ₹2.23 crore gross and ₹1.94 crore net. It sold 40,037 tickets across 771 shows, registering 25% occupancy.
Karnataka's occupancy figures stand out, suggesting strong audience interest in the film in Yash's home market.
PVR and INOX Record Strong Contributions
Multiplex chains also contributed significantly to the film's opening-day performance.
PVR led the multiplex segment with ₹5.36 crore gross and ₹4.67 crore net. The chain sold 1,06,718 tickets across 1,255 shows at 179 venues, recording 40% occupancy.
INOX followed with ₹4.46 crore gross and ₹3.88 crore net. It sold 92,814 tickets across 1,265 shows at 153 venues, with occupancy reaching 34%.
The figures highlight the contribution of major multiplex chains to the film's theatrical business.
Can Ramayana Deliver a ₹100 Crore Opening?
Before the film's release, trade estimates had projected a massive opening for Ramayana. Some trade observers expected the film to collect around ₹100 crore on its first day across all languages in India.
An earlier Bollywood Hungama trade report had also discussed expectations of a ₹60-70 crore opening in Hindi and a ₹100 crore all-India total. These were pre-release projections, not confirmed collections.
The Indian Express, citing Sacnilk data, reported a separate update at 6 PM showing ₹46.47 crore net and ₹54.83 crore gross in domestic collections. Box office figures can vary depending on the tracking source, reporting time and whether the figures refer to net or gross earnings.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana also features Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. With its opening-day momentum and strong audience interest, the film has made an encouraging start.
The final Day 1 collection will offer a clearer picture of whether the film can meet the ambitious expectations surrounding its release.
