The theatrical success of Mirzapur: The Movie has triggered fresh speculation about whether other popular Indian web series could also make the jump from streaming platforms to cinemas. Among the titles frequently mentioned by fans is Panchayat, the beloved comedy-drama set in the fictional village of Phulera.
However, Raghubir Yadav, who plays the popular character Brij Bhushan Dubey, popularly known as Pradhan Pati, has explained why adapting the series into a feature film could be considerably more complicated than it sounds. Speaking to Variety India, the actor said the decision should ultimately be left to the writers and creators.
Raghubir Yadav Says A Film Could Affect Future Seasons
Raghubir Yadav's main concern is not about whether audiences would watch a film, but whether a theatrical version could interfere with the storytelling planned for the series.
The actor pointed out that the writers may already have several more seasons planned. Compressing the world of Phulera into a single feature-length story could potentially leave less room for the characters and situations that make the series work.
Yadav explained that if the writers decide to make a film, he will not interfere with their creative decision. He also made it clear that he would participate if the project eventually moves forward.
Why Panchayat Is Difficult To Compress Into Three Hours
One of the biggest strengths of Panchayat is its ensemble of characters. Instead of depending on a single central conflict, the series gradually develops several personalities and their relationships within the village.
Characters such as Manju Devi, Banrakas, Sachiv Ji and Brij Bhushan Dubey have their own individual arcs. According to Yadav, trying to summarise the lives and stories of these characters within three or four hours would be extremely challenging.
The veteran actor also referred to his own experience of village life while explaining his perspective. He suggested that rural life contains numerous layers that cannot easily be condensed into a conventional feature-film runtime.
Mirzapur Took A Different Route To The Big Screen
The comparison with Mirzapur has emerged largely because Mirzapur: The Movie successfully brought the show's established universe to cinemas.
One significant difference is the way the Mirzapur film was positioned within the show's timeline. Reports noted that the movie's story was placed between episodes of the first season, allowing the filmmakers to revisit familiar characters while creating a theatrical story without necessarily closing the larger television narrative.
That approach gives the makers considerably more flexibility. For Panchayat, however, the appeal is closely tied to the ongoing development of Phulera and its residents.
Panchayat's Strength Lies In Its Characters
Since its debut, Panchayat has built its popularity around everyday situations rather than large-scale action or dramatic spectacle. The humour often comes from conversations, village politics, personal relationships and small conflicts.
Raghubir Yadav has previously spoken about how closely he connected with the show's setting. In another recent interview, he recalled that he had lived in an environment similar to the one portrayed in the series, which helped him relate to the character and world of Panchayat.
This character-driven structure is also why a potential movie would require a different storytelling strategy rather than simply turning several episodes into one long narrative.
Raghubir Yadav Is Open If The Film Happens
Despite his reservations, Yadav has not ruled out appearing in a Panchayat movie.
The actor has repeatedly maintained that the final decision belongs to the writers and creators. If they find a story that works as a feature film, he is willing to be part of it.
This means that his comments should not be interpreted as confirmation that a movie has been cancelled or rejected by the makers. As of the latest reports, there has been no official announcement confirming a theatrical Panchayat film.
Panchayat Season 5 Is The Immediate Focus
For now, the attention remains on the fifth season of the popular series. Panchayat has completed four seasons, with the next chapter of the Phulera story currently in development.
Recent reports have indicated that Season 5 could arrive around October-November 2026, although viewers are still waiting for an official release announcement from the makers.
For fans, the possibility of a movie remains an interesting idea, especially after Mirzapur: The Movie demonstrated that a streaming franchise can be expanded onto the big screen. But Raghubir Yadav's comments highlight why the two shows cannot necessarily be treated in exactly the same way.
