October 2026 Box Office: Drishyam 3 and Jailer 2 Dominate

October 2026 proved disappointing for the Indian box office, despite the festive season and holiday period. Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3 and Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 emerged as the month's biggest successes, while several Bollywood and South Indian releases struggled to attract audiences.

October is traditionally considered an important month for theatrical releases in India, with festive holidays and the Dussehra season expected to bring more audiences to cinemas. However, October 2026 turned out to be a disappointing period for the film industry. Despite several releases across Hindi and South Indian cinema, only two films managed to deliver major box-office performances.

According to a report by Bhaskar Hindi, Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3 and Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 were the standout performers of the month. While these two films generated impressive numbers, several other releases failed to meet expectations.

Drishyam 3 Becomes Bollywood's Biggest October Success

Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3, which arrived in theatres on October 2, emerged as one of the biggest box-office successes of 2026.

The film reportedly collected approximately ₹373 crore in India net collections by October 29, while its worldwide box-office earnings reached around ₹579 crore.

The film also features Tabu, Shriya Saran and Jaideep Ahlawat in important roles. Its strong performance demonstrates the continued audience interest in the franchise, which has built a loyal following through its suspense-driven storytelling.

The film's performance helped Bollywood maintain a significant presence during an otherwise disappointing month.

Jailer 2 Delivers a Massive Box Office Performance

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 was the other major success of October. Released on October 15, the action entertainer reportedly crossed ₹765 crore worldwide by October 29.

Its India net collection was estimated at approximately ₹430 crore, making it one of the biggest commercial performers of the year.

The film's performance also highlighted Rajinikanth's continued popularity across different markets. Its strong theatrical run helped South Indian cinema contribute significantly to October's overall box-office business.

Together, Drishyam 3 and Jailer 2 became the two major films that prevented the month from turning into a complete disappointment for exhibitors and the film industry.

Ranbali, Prahaar and Other Films Struggle

While the two major releases enjoyed strong box-office runs, several other films failed to attract the expected audience response.

Vijay Deverakonda's Ranbali, released on October 16, reportedly collected around ₹57 crore in India net earnings by October 29. The film had generated expectations before release but could not achieve the commercial performance anticipated by the trade.

Rajkummar Rao's Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam also struggled despite appreciation for the actor's performance. Yami Gautam's Nai Naveli failed to generate significant box-office momentum.

Other Hindi releases, including Pooja Meri Jaan and Prem Keetanu, also failed to make a major impact.

The South Indian film industry witnessed similar challenges. Fahadh Faasil's Don't Trouble the Trouble and Vijay Deverakonda's Ranbali were among the films that did not deliver the expected results. Ambil Aavan received some appreciation but remained an average performer commercially.

October Box Office Collection Report

According to the figures cited in the Bhaskar Hindi report, Sacnilk's October tracking included approximately 126 films and estimated their combined collection at around ₹1,151 crore.

However, this figure includes films from different languages and movies that had already been running in theatres before October. Therefore, it should not be interpreted as the earnings of films released exclusively during the month.

The report also highlighted how October's performance compared with previous months.

August 2026 recorded approximately ₹1,768 crore in domestic gross collections, while September generated around ₹1,144 crore. July had also delivered a strong performance, with approximately ₹1,582 crore in domestic gross collections.

These comparisons underline the relatively weak performance of October, particularly considering the festive release window.

Upcoming Films That Could Revive the Box Office

The final two months of 2026 could bring fresh momentum to theatres, with several highly anticipated films scheduled for release.

Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash's Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to arrive on November 5. Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari's Yeh Prem Mol Liya and Emraan Hashmi's Gunmaster G9 are expected to release on November 27.

Shraddha Kapoor and Randeep Hooda's Eetha is scheduled for December 4, while Shah Rukh Khan's King, directed by Siddharth Anand, is expected to arrive on December 24.

With these major releases lined up, the industry will be hoping for a stronger finish to the year. After an underwhelming October, the upcoming festive and holiday releases could play an important role in determining the overall box-office performance of 2026.
