Bollywood News: Mrunal Thakur is preparing for the release of Pooja Meri Jaan, a psychological thriller that promises to take audiences into an uncomfortable space where truth, perception and responsibility constantly overlap. The actress has revealed that the film’s moral ambiguity was one of the biggest reasons she found the project exciting.
Directed by Navjot Gulati and produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik under Maddock Films, the film also stars Huma Qureshi, Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz. After being delayed for nearly four years, Pooja Meri Jaan is finally scheduled to premiere on ZEE5 on October 2, 2026.
Mrunal Thakur Was Drawn To Pooja’s Complexity
Mrunal Thakur plays the titular character Pooja, whose journey forms the centre of the film’s mystery.

According to the actress, she was attracted to the role because Pooja is not a straightforward character. The story gives her several emotional shades and deliberately prevents the audience from receiving all the answers immediately.
Mrunal said the complexity of Pooja’s character allowed her to explore different layers as an actor. She also explained that the narrative keeps making viewers question what they see and believe, while challenging them to examine how quickly people form judgements about others.
What Makes Pooja Meri Jaan Different?
Unlike a conventional thriller that simply presents a mystery and eventually explains everything, Pooja Meri Jaan appears to be built around conflicting perspectives.
The story begins after Pooja rejects the romantic advances of a close friend. What follows is a disturbing chain of events that raises questions about obsession, rejection, consent and responsibility.
The central mystery revolves around what actually happened and how much of the truth can be understood from the different accounts surrounding Pooja. The film keeps its moral lines deliberately blurred, allowing audiences to question whether they have understood the situation correctly.
Huma Qureshi Plays A Lawyer
Huma Qureshi plays Sana, a lawyer who becomes closely involved in understanding the circumstances surrounding Pooja.
Her character brings a legal perspective to the story and attempts to piece together the conflicting versions of events. This gives the film another layer beyond the personal drama involving Pooja and the people around her.
Huma has also highlighted the importance of the film’s multiple perspectives. According to her, the story does not examine its central conflict from just one point of view, making it difficult to separate assumptions from established truth.
A Story About Rejection And Obsession
Director Navjot Gulati has previously explained that Pooja Meri Jaan explores how some men struggle to deal with rejection.
The filmmaker revealed that the original idea came from a disturbing premise involving a man telling a woman that he would harm himself if she refused to marry him. Gulati wanted to explore the social conditioning that can make rejection difficult for some men to accept.
The film therefore combines elements of a psychological thriller, toxic relationship drama and courtroom story.
Mrunal Calls The Experience Intense
For Mrunal, playing Pooja was not simply about delivering emotional scenes. The character required her to carefully control what she revealed through her performance.
The actress has described the experience as intense and challenging because the story requires her to hold back certain answers that the audience is expected to discover independently.
That approach could make Pooja one of the more unusual characters in Mrunal’s recent filmography, particularly because the narrative does not immediately tell viewers how they should interpret her actions or circumstances.
Pooja Meri Jaan Release Date
The film was announced and shot several years ago but remained unreleased for an extended period. After nearly four years, the makers have now confirmed its OTT arrival.
Pooja Meri Jaan will premiere on ZEE5 on October 2, 2026. The film is directed by Navjot Gulati, with Vipasha Arvind also credited as co-director in Mid-Day’s report, and is backed by Maddock Films.
Interestingly, Bollywood Hungama has reported that the film received an A certificate from the CBFC and has a runtime of approximately 1 hour and 58 minutes. This certification reflects the film’s adult-oriented themes and intense subject matter.
Why The Film Could Spark Conversations
At its core, Pooja Meri Jaan appears interested in questions that extend beyond its mystery plot. The film examines what happens when rejection, obsession and social expectations collide.
Its emphasis on perception is particularly important. The same situation can appear very different depending on who is describing it, and the film uses that uncertainty to keep audiences questioning their own assumptions.
With Mrunal Thakur leading the story and Huma Qureshi bringing a legal perspective to the mystery, the film is positioned as a psychological drama rather than a conventional thriller.
For Mrunal, that ambiguity was precisely what made the project exciting. Instead of giving audiences an easy moral answer, Pooja Meri Jaan intends to leave them thinking about relationships, consent, responsibility and the judgements people make about others.
