That transition was challenging for Shweta Tripathi, who had already lived with Golu for several seasons. She explained that she had to mentally reset herself because the film takes place much earlier in Golu's timeline.

Going Back to Golu’s Earlier Personality

One of the biggest challenges for the actress was reconnecting with Golu before the traumatic events that transformed her.

By the third season of Mirzapur, Golu had become a much more hardened character. But the film takes viewers back to a stage when she was still experiencing attraction towards Bablu Pandit and navigating a very different emotional landscape.

Shweta Tripathi revealed that even her preparation for the character had to change. Earlier, her playlist for Golu was filled with songs connected to anger and pain. For the film, she had to rediscover a lighter emotional side of the character.

She described the process as an internal battle initially, but said working on the film's song “Vaaroon” helped her settle back into the earlier version of Golu.

Mirzapur: The Movie Is Not Season 1 Redux

The actress has also made it clear that the upcoming film should not be viewed simply as a retelling of the first season.

According to Shweta Tripathi, the movie follows a different route while retaining the characters and the elements audiences already love. She compared it to taking a bypass from a familiar highway — the destination remains connected to the Mirzapur universe, but the journey introduces new elements.

The film brings back several familiar faces, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu, while Jitendra Kumar steps into the role of Bablu Pandit, previously played by Vikrant Massey.

A Bigger Experience on the Big Screen

The actress is also excited about seeing Mirzapur: The Movie with audiences in theatres. After years of experiencing the franchise on streaming, she believes the theatrical format will create a different atmosphere.

The film is directed by Gurmeet Singh, written by Puneet Krishna and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment. It is scheduled for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026.

Beyond Golu, the actress has consistently expressed interest in playing flawed and complicated women rather than characters who are expected to be perfect.

She believes characters should be allowed to make mistakes, evolve and respond to difficult circumstances. This philosophy is particularly visible in Golu's journey, where a woman who initially believed in non-violence eventually becomes involved in a violent world.
