The third season of the popular series ‘Mirzapur’ has been the talk of the town since its release. Fans have long adored this story of power, revenge, and crime. Featuring actors Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi, Rasika Dugal, and Anjum Sharma in pivotal roles, the new season delves deeper into the lives of Mirzapur’s characters. However, the response to ‘Mirzapur 3’ has been mixed. Co-director Anand Iyer recently discussed this in an interview with AajTak.

Anand Iyer, who directed some episodes of ‘Mirzapur’ Season 3, shared his thoughts on the show’s reception, the absence of Divyenndu Sharma’s character Munna Bhaiya, and its impact on a potential Season 4.

Mixed Reviews and Audience Reactions

Addressing the mixed reviews, Anand said, “Like any show, we’ve received mixed reactions. Many people like the direction the story is taking. Some hardcore fans are emotionally expressing their opinions. The reactions are mostly about the characters rather than the show itself. However, people are also talking about Season 4, which shows there’s still love for the series.”

The Impact of Munna Bhaiya’s Absence in Mirzapur 3

Fans missed Munna Bhaiya in this season, and many expressed this on social media. When asked how he handles these expectations while staying true to the script, Anand replied, “You can entertain everyone, but like life, things happen in a show. It’s unpredictable. Characters come and go, and ‘Mirzapur’ is about the entire story, not just one character. The show should continue with many twists, turns, and new plots.”

Anand also highlighted the strong portrayal of women in the series. “What I love about this show is the attention given to women. They are powerful and an integral part of the show. I draw inspiration from my mother, a strong woman, and my wife, who has battled cancer twice. It’s time they get their due, and this season has beautifully showcased that.”

Directing Challenges in Mirzapur 3

When asked if directing only some episodes of a show is challenging, Anand said, “I’m surprised you call it challenging because I never saw it that way. I joined an elite team as a newcomer. Gurmeet has been the director for the past two seasons, so he’s the showrunner. We discuss everything that happens. We also talk to the actors who understand their characters better. Before shooting scenes, we discuss the characters in depth, especially those who have been part of the show since Season 1.”

Update on Mirzapur Season 4

Anand Iyer also provided an update on Season 4, saying, “The future will tell based on the current response. People forgot that it took time for Season 3 due to COVID-19. But with the love we’ve received, we are preparing for the new season.”
