Director Siddharth P Malhotra has confirmed that the principal cast of Kamal Aur Meena, his ambitious film exploring the relationship between legendary actress Meena Kumari and filmmaker Kamal Amrohi, has finally been locked.

Kamal Aur Meena will explore the relationship between Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi, one of the most discussed creative and personal partnerships in the history of Hindi cinema.
The two married in the early 1950s, but their relationship later became strained and they eventually separated.
Their personal history also became deeply connected with the making of Pakeezah, the landmark 1972 film directed by Amrohi and starring Meena Kumari.
The film took around 15 years to complete after facing numerous production and personal challenges.
Pakeezah was eventually released on February 4, 1972. Meena Kumari died on March 31 that year, only weeks after the film arrived in cinemas.
Pakeezah Is Also Returning to the Spotlight
Interest in Meena Kumari's cinematic legacy is particularly strong at the moment because Pakeezah itself is returning to international attention.
A restored version of the 1972 classic is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Festival Lumière in Lyon, France, in October 2026, followed by a screening at the BFI London Film Festival.
The restoration was undertaken by the Film Heritage Foundation after an extensive process involving surviving archival materials.
The renewed attention around Pakeezah adds another layer of interest to Siddharth P Malhotra's upcoming film.
Bilal Amrohi to Produce Kamal Aur Meena
Kamal Aur Meena is being produced by Bilal Amrohi, connecting the project directly with the Amrohi family.
