Mumbai: The controversy surrounding Kriti Sanon’s Raksha Bandhan advertisement continues to dominate Bollywood conversations, with fresh reactions from Madhu Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Kunickaa Sadanand adding new dimensions to the debate.
What began as criticism of Kriti Sanon’s outfit in a Raksha Bandhan-themed jewellery campaign has now turned into a larger discussion around fashion, cultural representation, personal choice and the way Indian festivals are portrayed in advertising.
The campaign featured Kriti in an Indo-Western ensemble while celebrating Raksha Bandhan. Soon after it surfaced online, sections of social media questioned the styling and presentation of the festival. The controversy intensified after actor and politician Kangana Ranaut publicly criticised the campaign. The jewellery brand subsequently withdrew the advertisement amid the backlash.
Madhu Chopra Reacts to Kriti Sanon Ad Controversy

The latest prominent reaction has come from Madhu Chopra, mother of Priyanka Chopra.
Speaking about the controversy, Madhu supported an individual's freedom to choose what they wear but argued that context and boundaries also matter. Discussing the idea of “my body, my choice,” she said there should still be a certain daayra, particularly when cultural sensitivities are involved.
She also pointed out that her own children wear modern outfits, while suggesting that what is appropriate can depend on the setting and occasion.
Her remarks have brought renewed attention to the controversy at a time when the original advertisement has already been taken down.
Kangana Ranaut’s Raksha Bandhan Celebration Draws Attention

Kangana Ranaut, whose criticism was one of the major factors that pushed the controversy into the national conversation, has meanwhile shared pictures from her own Raksha Bandhan celebration.
Kangana celebrated the festival with her brother, wearing a saree and sharing photographs featuring traditional rituals including a teeka and aarti thali. Coming shortly after her criticism of Kriti’s campaign, the pictures have inevitably attracted attention in the context of the ongoing debate.
Kriti, however, has defended her position during the controversy, arguing against judging a woman’s culture and values merely through her clothing. The actress has maintained that the meaning of a festival lies in relationships and emotions rather than what someone chooses to wear.
Kunickaa Sadanand Brings Kangana’s Old Ad Into Debate

The controversy took another turn after Kunickaa Sadanand shared an older Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring Kangana Ranaut.
In the resurfaced campaign, Kangana can be seen in a strapless outfit with a deep neckline. Kunickaa used the old advertisement to take a dig at Kangana after the latter had criticised Kriti’s attire.
The post has consequently shifted part of the online conversation towards questions of consistency and double standards when it comes to judging women’s clothing.
Kunickaa had also spoken in support of Kriti and criticised the jewellery brand for leaving the actress to face the backlash after withdrawing the campaign.
Kriti Sanon Takes a Dig at the ‘Rakhi Fashion Committee’
Kriti has now seemingly responded to the continuing scrutiny with humour.
While sharing her own Raksha Bandhan celebration with sister Nupur Sanon, the actress referred to a “Rakhi fashion committee” and indicated that the sisters were instead focusing on what genuinely mattered to them.
The post appears to be a pointed response to the days-long discussion around what she wore in the advertisement.
From an Advertisement to a Bigger Bollywood Debate
The Kriti Sanon Raksha Bandhan ad controversy has now gone far beyond the original campaign.
The advertisement has been withdrawn, but reactions from celebrities and public figures have kept the issue alive. What started with questions about an outfit has evolved into competing arguments over tradition, freedom of choice, cultural representation and whether women face disproportionate scrutiny over clothing.
With Kriti continuing to respond to her critics and fresh reactions emerging even on Raksha Bandhan, the controversy remains one of the most discussed stories in Bollywood news this week.
