Karisma Kapoor has delivered several memorable performances throughout her career, but there is one unusual connection between five of her films that many fans may have never noticed. Despite playing different characters in different stories, Karisma Kapoor was named Sapna in five separate movies.
The films featured different plots, co-stars and filmmakers, yet the character's first name remained exactly the same. The five movies are Deedar, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Chal Mere Bhai, Jaanwar and Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge.
1. Deedar – Sapna A. Saxena
The first film in this interesting connection was Deedar, released in 1992.
Karisma played Sapna A. Saxena, alongside Akshay Kumar, in the romantic drama. The film also featured Anupam Kher and Tanuja in important roles.
The music was composed by Anand-Milind, with lyrics by Sameer. According to the NDTV report, the soundtrack contained seven songs that were well received by audiences.
2. Hum Saath-Saath Hain – The Family Drama Sapna
Seven years later, Karisma once again appeared as Sapna, this time in Sooraj Barjatya's hugely popular family drama Hum Saath-Saath Hain.
Released in 1999, the film featured an ensemble cast including Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, Mohnish Bahl and Karisma Kapoor.
Unlike Deedar, where Sapna was part of a romantic drama, this version of the character belonged to a large family-oriented story.
The movie's soundtrack also became extremely popular, with singers including Kumar Sanu, Kavita Krishnamurti, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Hariharan and Sonu Nigam lending their voices to the songs.
3. Chal Mere Bhai – Another Sapna, Another Story
Karisma Kapoor's third Sapna came in the 2000 comedy-drama Chal Mere Bhai.
The film reunited her with Salman Khan, while Sanjay Dutt played another important role.
Interestingly, the character's name remained Sapna even though the story and character dynamics were completely different from her earlier films.
The movie's music was again composed by Anand-Milind. Its soundtrack featured 10 songs, and the album was among the popular music releases of 2000, according to NDTV.
4. Jaanwar – Karisma as Sapna Again
The same name appeared again in Jaanwar, which released in December 1999.
Karisma played Sapna opposite Akshay Kumar in the action-drama, which also featured Shilpa Shetty, Mohnish Bahl and Ashutosh Rana.
The film revolved around a criminal whose life begins to change after his relationship with a child. Karisma's character once again carried the name Sapna, making Jaanwar the fourth movie in this unusual pattern.
The soundtrack featured nine songs, including popular tracks such as “Tujhko Na Dekhun,” “Mera Yaar Dildar,” “Mere Sapnon Ke Rajkumar” and “Angoori Angoori.”
5. Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge – The Fifth Sapna
The fifth and final film in this particular coincidence was Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, released in 2000.
Karisma once again played Sapna, with Salman Khan as the male lead. The film also featured veteran actors including Om Puri, Paresh Rawal and Anupam Kher.
Directed by David Dhawan, the romantic comedy became known for its comic situations and popular music.
The soundtrack was composed by Himesh Reshammiya and contained nine songs, all of which were popular with audiences, according to the NDTV report.
Five Different Films, One Same Name
What makes the coincidence interesting is that these five films were not connected stories. They had different characters, plots, settings and co-stars.
Yet Karisma Kapoor's character was named Sapna in every one of them.
Her filmography confirms the presence of Chal Mere Bhai, Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge, Jaanwar and Hum Saath-Saath Hain around this period, while Deedar came earlier in her career.
Karisma Kapoor's Evergreen Film Legacy
Karisma Kapoor remains one of the most recognisable actresses of the 1990s, with a filmography spanning romance, comedy, drama and action.
Her popular movies and songs have continued to find audiences years after their theatrical releases. In a 2026 interview, Karisma herself credited her loyal fans and younger Gen-Z audiences for keeping her films and songs relevant.
The recurring Sapna connection is another fascinating piece of trivia from that era.
Five different movies, five different stories and five different versions of the character—but one name: Sapna.
