Honey Singh, known for his unique rap style, once dominated the Indian music scene with hits that resonated with the youth. However, his rapid rise to fame was followed by equally swift criticism, especially regarding his portrayal of women in his music. Now, Singh has addressed these issues and compared his situation to that of legendary lyricist Gulzar.

In a recent interview with the Times of India, Honey Singh, also known as Hirdesh Singh, discussed the backlash he has faced over his music. He used Gulzar’s songs as a reference point to illustrate his point about criticism and double standards in the industry. Singh expressed frustration over being criticized while other prominent figures receive praise.

Singh questioned the outrage directed at his songs compared to similar content in Gulzar’s work. He cited the song “Beedi Jalaile” as an example, asking, “In the song ‘Beedi Jalaile Jigar Se Piya,’ where is the woman’s jigar (heart)? Why is there no objection to this portrayal?” Singh also referenced another song, “Zubaan Pe Lagaa Namak Ishq Ka,” and wondered why such depictions of women are accepted in some cases but not others.

The rapper’s comments reveal his irritation with the inconsistency in how different artists are judged. He lamented that while he faces criticism, Gulzar is celebrated as a legend, despite similar themes appearing in both their works. Singh highlighted what he sees as a double standard in the industry, where modernity is embraced but traditional prejudices persist.

Singh’s recent efforts to make a comeback include the release of his new song “Bonita” from the Glory album. This track follows the earlier release of “Celineite,” also part of the same album. Additionally, Singh is set to share his life story in a documentary titled “Famous,” which will explore how his rise to stardom affected his personal life and career.
