Disha Salian Death Case: Sanjay Raut Reacts to Aaditya Thackeray Allegations

The Disha Salian death case has returned to the political spotlight after Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut alleged that renewed attempts to link the Thackeray family to the matter are politically motivated. His remarks follow a CBI FIR in the case and a ₹500-crore defamation notice issued by Disha Salian’s father.

The Disha Salian death case has once again become a subject of political debate in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has rejected renewed allegations surrounding the case and alleged that attempts to link the Thackeray family to it are politically motivated.

Raut’s remarks came amid renewed attention to the investigation into Disha Salian’s 2020 death and after her father, Satish Salian, issued a ₹500-crore defamation notice to former ministers Aaditya Thackeray and Anil Deshmukh.

Sanjay Raut Alleges Political Motive

Addressing the media, Sanjay Raut said his party has no objection to an impartial investigation into the Disha Salian death case. However, he questioned the circumstances surrounding the renewed focus on the matter.

Raut alleged that the case was being used to target Aaditya Thackeray and damage the reputation of the wider Thackeray family. These are Raut’s political allegations and have not been independently established.

He also argued that the Bombay High Court had directed the CBI to investigate the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death without treating any individual as an accused from the outset.

CBI Registers FIR in Disha Salian Case

The latest development in the Disha Salian death case came after the Bombay High Court directed a CBI investigation following a petition filed by Salian’s father.

The CBI subsequently registered an FIR in connection with her death. Reports state that the FIR did not name any person as an accused, although names and allegations connected to the matter have appeared in subsequent public and media discussions.

The investigation is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death and allegations raised about the handling of the case.

Who Was Disha Salian?

Disha Salian was a former manager who had briefly worked with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai’s Malad area.

Her death occurred six days before Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence. The proximity of the two deaths subsequently led to speculation about a possible connection between the cases.

However, earlier investigations did not establish such a connection. The Mumbai Police had treated Salian’s death as an accidental death and later concluded that she had died by suicide, according to reports.

Aaditya Thackeray Denies Connection

The Disha Salian death case has repeatedly been linked in public debate to Aaditya Thackeray. The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader has denied ever meeting or knowing Salian.

Raut has backed Aaditya Thackeray and maintained that earlier investigations did not establish his connection to the case. Aaditya’s position and Raut’s claims are separate from the ongoing CBI investigation, whose findings have not yet been established.

Being mentioned in allegations or public discussions surrounding an investigation does not by itself establish criminal wrongdoing.

Raut Questions Media Reports and FIR Details

Raut has also questioned the way information related to the Disha Salian death case has appeared in the media. He claimed that only one page of a 16-page FIR had been circulated publicly and questioned how selected information had reached news outlets.

He argued that the matter was being discussed politically while it remained subject to legal proceedings.

Raut has also connected the renewed political debate to wider developments in Maharashtra politics. Those connections are allegations made by Raut and have not been independently established as the reason for the investigation.

₹500-Crore Defamation Notice Adds Another Development

Another major development surrounding the Disha Salian death case is the ₹500-crore defamation notice issued by Disha Salian’s father, Satish Salian.

The notice was directed at Aaditya Thackeray and former Maharashtra minister Anil Deshmukh, according to the latest Mid-Day report. The development has added another legal dimension to the renewed controversy.

The allegations contained in legal notices are claims and should not be treated as established findings unless supported by subsequent judicial or investigative proceedings.

Earlier Investigations and the Current Probe

The Disha Salian death case has undergone scrutiny before the current CBI investigation. Earlier police proceedings concluded that there was no evidence establishing foul play, according to reports on the previous investigation.

The Indian Express reported on September 19 that Mumbai Police had closed its investigation for lack of evidence supporting foul play and that an earlier CBI examination had not produced substantial leads connecting Salian’s death to criminal activity.

The current CBI investigation could therefore provide further findings based on the material and allegations now before the agency.

What Happens Next in the Disha Salian Case?

The Disha Salian death case remains under investigation, and the CBI’s findings will be important in determining what, if anything, further emerges from the allegations surrounding her death.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut and other Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders continue to argue that the renewed political attention is being used against the Thackeray family, while supporters of the investigation have maintained that the probe should be allowed to proceed according to law.

For now, the competing political claims should be distinguished from established investigative findings. The outcome of the CBI probe and any subsequent court proceedings will determine the next stage of the Disha Salian death case.
