Born and raised in Mumbai, Ajoy Varma Raja’s journey to becoming a film director is a testament to hard work, passion, and unwavering dedication. While pursuing a degree in electronic engineering, Ajoy began making short films. Without any industry connections or a godfather, he chose to master the craft of editing and spent nearly 15 years working on advertisements, television shows, and films.

He became one of the first editors in India to introduce on-location editing, a move that inspired him to step into the director’s chair. His latest directorial venture, Interrogation, is set to premiere on Zee5 on May 30, 2025. Speaking about the film, Ajoy shares, “Getting a platform like Zee5 is an honor, and it has been made possible through the constant support and trust of our producer and longtime friend, Piyush Dinesh Gupta.” Ajoy praises Piyush not just as a visionary producer but also as a steadfast creative partner.

The film introduces a fresh face to the audience—actor Manu Singh, who plays the role of a police officer. Ajoy recalls, “When I saw Manu’s audition, I instantly knew we had found our character.” Having previously worked with award-winning talents like Manoj Bajpayee in Dus Tola and legendary actor Mohanlal in Neerali, Ajoy recognizes potential when he sees it. He confidently states, “I believe ten years from now, this boy will be a superstar.” Manu has brought depth and authenticity to his debut performance, adding a compelling layer to the narrative.

Alongside Manu, seasoned actors Rajpal Yadav and Yashpal Sharma play significant roles, further strengthening the film’s impact.

Director Ajoy Varma Raja also has a message for aspiring filmmakers from small towns: “If you have passion and determination, you can definitely carve a place for yourself in this industry.”

Interrogation is not just a film—it is the culmination of the creative vision, passion, and dedication of Ajoy Varma Raja and his entire team. The film has been produced under the banners of Naam Mein Kya Rakha Hai and Aryan Brothers, the latter helmed by Kunwar Pragya Arya and Inderveer.

Ajoy Varma Raja shares that working on the film was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, especially with the creative collaboration of co-director Preksha S. Agrawal, whose contribution made the project even more memorable.
