A new casting update has emerged for Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker’s upcoming film Lalkaara. Actor Danish Pandor, who gained wider recognition for his role as Uzair Baloch in the Dhurandhar franchise, has reportedly joined the much-awaited sports drama in a pivotal role.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Pandor will play one of Aamir Khan’s friends in the film. The development comes as the makers continue to assemble the ensemble cast of the period sports drama.
The report also states that Vikrant Massey is not part of Lalkaara, despite his name being linked to the project in earlier reports. The latest casting development adds another interesting name to Aamir and Gowariker’s reunion, which has generated considerable interest because of their previous collaboration on Lagaan.
Danish Pandor Joins Lalkaara
Danish Pandor's reported casting comes after his performance as Uzair Baloch in Dhurandhar brought him significant attention.
Pandor has previously appeared in projects including Sacred Games, Double XL and Chhaava, but his role in Dhurandhar has given his career a notable boost. His reported addition to Lalkaara now places him alongside Aamir Khan in one of the more ambitious sports dramas currently in development.
While details about Pandor's character are being kept under wraps, reports indicate that he will portray one of Aamir's friends. Sidhant Gupta, who joined the project after earlier reports surrounding Farhan Akhtar's involvement, is also expected to play a key role alongside Aamir.
Vikrant Massey Is Not Part of the Film
The latest update also clears up speculation surrounding Vikrant Massey.
His name had previously been associated with Lalkaara, but according to the latest Bollywood Hungama report, he is not part of the film's cast. This means the current reported ensemble includes Aamir Khan, Sidhant Gupta and Danish Pandor, among others.
The film has gone through several casting developments in recent months. Farhan Akhtar was also previously reported to be part of the project, but he clarified that he had never officially signed on as an actor. He continues to be associated with the movie as a producer through Excel Entertainment.
Aamir Khan Plays Lala Amarnath
Aamir Khan will reportedly portray legendary Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath in Lalkaara.
Amarnath was independent India's first Test captain and played a significant role in Indian cricket during the country's early years after Independence. The film is set against the backdrop of the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series, the first Test series between the two countries after Partition.
Rather than being a straightforward biopic, Lalkaara has been described as a sports drama inspired by the historic cricket series. The story is expected to explore themes including friendship, rivalry, Partition and national identity.
Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker Reunite After Lagaan
One of the biggest reasons for the anticipation around Lalkaara is the reunion of Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowariker.
The two previously collaborated on Lagaan, the acclaimed 2001 period sports drama that went on to become one of the most celebrated films of Indian cinema. Lagaan also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
More than two decades later, the actor-director duo is returning to the sports genre, this time with a story rooted in the early years of India-Pakistan cricket rivalry.
Lalkaara Has an Ensemble Cast
The makers are reportedly building a sizeable ensemble around Aamir Khan.
Sidhant Gupta, known for projects such as Jubilee, Inside Edge, Black Warrant and Freedom at Midnight, has been brought on board for an important role. Earlier reports said he would play one of Aamir's friends.
With Danish Pandor now reportedly joining the cast, the film is gradually taking shape as an ensemble sports drama rather than a single-character biographical project.
The identities of several supporting characters are still being kept confidential.
Cricket Training Underway
The actors are also expected to undergo extensive preparation for their roles.
Reports indicate that Aamir Khan, Sidhant Gupta and Danish Pandor are undergoing cricket training and physical preparation to convincingly portray characters connected to the historic cricket era.
For Aamir in particular, playing Lala Amarnath will require more than simply recreating the appearance of the legendary cricketer. The actor is expected to portray the sporting personality and historical context surrounding Amarnath's career.
Who Is Making Lalkaara?
Lalkaara is being produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment in association with Rajkumar Hirani Films.
The screenplay has been written by Piyush Gupta, known for Dangal and Chhichhore, along with Neeraj Singh, writer of Nil Battey Sannata.
The project has therefore brought together several established names from the Hindi film industry, both in front of and behind the camera.
When Will Lalkaara Go on Floors?
The film is expected to begin shooting in late 2026. Earlier reports had indicated an October schedule, while more recent coverage has pointed towards filming beginning in November.
The makers have yet to announce an official release date.
With Aamir Khan playing Lala Amarnath, Ashutosh Gowariker returning to the sports genre and Danish Pandor joining the ensemble, Lalkaara is gradually emerging as one of the more closely watched upcoming Hindi films.
The latest casting update also makes it clear that the project has moved through several changes before settling on its current lineup. While Vikrant Massey is reportedly not part of the film, Danish Pandor's addition gives the ensemble another promising performer following his recent visibility in Dhurandhar.
