Bollywood Mascot: The regional film industry is currently under scrutiny for sexual harassment allegations. Following recent revelations about several prominent producers and directors in Malayalam cinema, which caused a stir on social media, another well-known filmmaker, Arindam Sil, has now come under similar allegations. Arindam Sil, a prominent name in Bengali cinema, has been suspended by the Directors' Association of Eastern India (DAEI) due to allegations of sexual harassment. The suspension follows claims that the incident occurred on a film set. The DAEI took this action based on the evidence presented, which they believe poses a serious concern and tarnishes the reputation of the organization. In an official statement, the DAEI said, “Serious allegations have been made against you, and the evidence we have raises grave concerns and is damaging to the organization’s reputation. Consequently, the DAEI has decided to suspend your membership until a clarification on the allegations is provided.” This move comes amid a broader wave of sexual harassment claims that have recently surfaced in the Malayalam film industry. The "MeToo" movement, which initially highlighted these issues in Malayalam cinema, has now reached the Bengali film industry as well. This shift follows the highly publicized report by the Hema Committee, which exposed widespread sexual harassment in Malayalam cinema. The fallout from these revelations included superstar Mohanlal resigning from his position as president of the Malayalam Movie Actors Association and the dissolution of the association itself. Arindam Sil is known for his work in Bengali cinema, including notable films such as "Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh," "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy," and "Te3n." In 2014, he was honored with the Mahayanak Uttam Kumar Award by the West Bengal government for his contributions to cinema.
