Bipasha Basu is officially returning to acting after a six-year break, marking an exciting new chapter in her career. The actress has begun shooting for filmmaker Hansal Mehta’s upcoming crime drama, which is being developed as a Prime Video Original series.
The project also stars Sunny Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa in significant roles. Production has commenced, although the makers have yet to reveal the series’ official title or premiere date.
Bipasha’s comeback is particularly noteworthy because the actress has largely stayed away from acting in recent years while focusing on her personal life and motherhood. Her return to the screen with a crime-driven story also signals a shift towards a project built around suspense, corruption and the darker side of society.
1. Hansal Mehta’s Crime Drama Has Started Filming
The upcoming series is directed by Hansal Mehta, the filmmaker known for acclaimed projects such as Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, Scoop and The Buckingham Murders.
Mehta’s storytelling frequently explores people caught in complicated situations involving power, morality and institutional corruption. His new project appears to continue that approach, with a crime narrative set in a town on the verge of becoming a major hub for heroin trafficking.
The series is written by Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Raj Kakker and produced by Prabhleen Sandhu under the banner of Almighty Motion Pictures Productions.
Although filming has begun, the makers have not yet disclosed a release date. More information about the characters and the complete cast is expected in future announcements.
2. Sunny Kaushal Plays an Honest Police Officer
Sunny Kaushal will reportedly lead the narrative as an incorruptible police officer who finds himself confronting powerful forces both inside and outside the system.
According to the official synopsis, the story unfolds in a small, seemingly ordinary town that is becoming a major centre for heroin trafficking. As criminal networks gain influence, the officer must navigate a dangerous environment while attempting to protect his integrity and humanity.
The premise suggests a tense crime drama that examines the challenges faced by law enforcement when corruption and organised crime become deeply embedded in local power structures.
Sunny has previously appeared in projects such as Shiddat, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga and Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. His role in the new series offers another opportunity to explore a more intense, dramatic character.
3. Vishal Jethwa Joins the Cast
Vishal Jethwa is also part of the series, although details about his character have not yet been officially revealed.
The actor has earned recognition for his performances in projects including Mardaani 2 and Salaam Venky. He also appeared in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, which brought further attention to his acting abilities.
With Sunny Kaushal leading the story and Vishal joining the ensemble, the series brings together performers known for their work across different genres.
The combination of these actors and Hansal Mehta’s direction has generated interest in how the crime drama will portray the people caught in a growing trafficking network.
4. Why Bipasha Basu’s Comeback Matters
Bipasha Basu was last seen in the 2020 web series Dangerous, opposite her husband, actor Karan Singh Grover. Her return to acting after six years makes the new project an important milestone in her career.
The actress rose to fame through films such as Raaz, Jism, Dhoom 2 and Race. Known for her strong screen presence, she became a familiar face in thrillers, action films and horror dramas.
After stepping away from regular acting assignments, Bipasha focused on her personal life. She and Karan welcomed their daughter, Devi, in November 2022.
Her return with a serious crime drama offers audiences an opportunity to see her in a new project while marking her re-entry into the entertainment industry.
The makers have not yet disclosed the precise nature of her role, leaving viewers waiting for more details about the character she will portray.
5. When Will the New Crime Series Release?
The series has officially entered production, but Prime Video has not announced its title or streaming date.
The storyline, cast and involvement of Hansal Mehta have already created anticipation, particularly among viewers who enjoy realistic crime dramas.
The setting of a town transforming into a major heroin-trafficking hub also suggests a story that could explore organised crime, corruption and the personal cost of standing up to powerful interests.
For now, audiences will have to wait for the makers to reveal further details, including Bipasha Basu’s character and the series’ eventual premiere schedule.
Bipasha Basu Begins a New Chapter
Bipasha Basu’s return to acting is one of the notable developments in her career after a prolonged break. With Hansal Mehta directing, Sunny Kaushal playing the central police officer and Vishal Jethwa joining the cast, the upcoming series brings together a promising team for a crime-focused story.
As filming progresses, further announcements should clarify the project’s title, characters and release plans. Until then, Bipasha’s comeback alone gives fans a reason to watch this new Prime Video production closely.
