Ayesha Jhulka on quitting Bollywood
Ayesha Jhulka, in an interview with The Times of India, revealed that her decision to leave the industry was a deliberate one. She explained that she wanted to make sure that she could add value to a project if she was going to be associated with it. However, she felt that she was not being given the opportunity to perform and was being treated like a prop instead. Therefore, she concluded that it was not worth her time.
Ayesha Jhulka expressed that she had to stop taking up roles that typecasted her as a glamour girl. She pointed out that every actress desires growth and recognition for their acting skills, and not just for their appearance. According to Jhulka, despite having different character names, the roles she was offered were quite similar when she first started working in the Hindi film industry.
Ayesha Jhulka wanted to be known for her acting not glam girl
Ayesha Jhulka continued to explain that she didn’t have any problem with the roles being offered to her, but she felt that she was being typecast and offered the same kind of films repeatedly. She had to portray the same role of being a glam girl, dance and sing in movies, and be a mere prop for the hero. She acknowledged that it was acceptable as a newcomer, but as she progressed in her career, she wanted to be recognized for her acting skills. She realized that the kind of cinema she was doing no longer fulfilled her and didn’t tap her full potential. Therefore, she decided to take a break from acting and channel her energies elsewhere.
