Article 370: Yami Gautam Calls National Award a True Validation for Artists

Yami Gautam has opened up about her National Film Award win for Article 370, calling the honour a true validation for artists. The actress says the recognition has brought a greater sense of responsibility and motivated her to explore more diverse roles.

Bollywood News: Yami Gautam is currently celebrating an important milestone in her acting career after receiving the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in Article 370. The actress has now spoken about what the prestigious honour means to her and how it has influenced her approach toward acting.

Speaking at the trailer launch of her upcoming film Nayyi Navelli, Yami described the National Film Award as a major honour and a genuine validation for an artist. She also admitted that receiving the award has changed something within her professionally, particularly by increasing her sense of responsibility.

Yami Gautam Calls National Film Award a Major Honour

Yami Gautam said that the National Film Award represents an important form of recognition for artists working across different languages and formats in India. For her, the award is not simply another achievement but recognition of the work she has put into her craft.

The actress also acknowledged that the honour has affected her outlook. According to her, it would not be accurate to say that nothing has changed after receiving the award. Instead, she now feels an even stronger responsibility to continue improving as an actor.

‘There Is So Much for Me to Learn’

Despite receiving one of the country's major film honours, Yami Gautam says she still considers herself a student of the craft. She explained that the award has encouraged her to work harder, become more diverse in her choices and continue earning the affection and respect of audiences.

Yami also reflected on her journey from a small town to receiving a National Award. Rather than treating the achievement as the end of her journey, she said that she still has a long way to go and plenty to learn as an artist.

Article 370 Became a Major Milestone

Yami won the Best Actress award for playing NIA officer Zooni Haksar in Article 370. The 2024 political action thriller, directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, also received the National Award for Best Feature Film, while Shashwat Sachdev was recognised for Best Music Direction.

The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony took place in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on September 22, 2026. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards, with Yami receiving the Best Actress honour.

Yami Gautam Keeps Her Future Ambitions Private

Yami was also asked whether the National Award had encouraged her to think about international honours such as the Oscars. Rather than publicly discussing specific ambitions, the actress said she prefers to keep her dreams private.

She emphasised her belief in letting her work speak for itself instead of constantly talking about future goals. This approach, she suggested, allows an artist to remain focused on the work rather than the recognition that may follow.

‘Nayyi Navelli’ Marks Her Return After the National Award

Yami Gautam is now preparing for the release of Nayyi Navelli, which marks her return to the big screen after her National Award-winning performance in Article 370. The upcoming horror-comedy is directed by Balaji Mohan and features Yami as a mysterious bride whose arrival turns a chaotic Meerut household upside down.

The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 16, 2026.

Yami Says Success Should Not Affect Humility

While discussing her life after the National Award, Yami also highlighted the importance of remaining grounded. She has said that she believes an artist should continue to stay connected to the basics even after achieving recognition.

For Yami, the award appears to have strengthened her motivation rather than changed her fundamental approach to acting. She wants to continue choosing roles that interest her, challenge her creatively and offer something engaging to audiences.

Her National Award for Article 370 has therefore become both a significant career milestone and a reminder of the responsibility she feels toward her profession.
