The future of the popular Drishyam franchise has taken an interesting turn. While Mohanlal's Malayalam series is moving ahead with Drishyam 4, Ajay Devgn has confirmed that the Hindi version will conclude with Drishyam: The Conclusion.
Ajay made the revelation during the trailer launch of the third Hindi film in Goa on September 9. His comments came shortly after the makers of the Malayalam franchise confirmed their plans for another chapter, creating two very different futures for the same cinematic universe.
Ajay Devgn Says No Drishyam 4 in Hindi
According to Ajay, continuing the Hindi story after the upcoming film would only make sense if the makers had a genuinely strong idea.
The actor explained that finding the right story after Drishyam 2 was not easy. Director Abhishek Pathak and the writers spent around two-and-a-half years developing the screenplay before arriving at a story that the team believed could justify another film.
That process ultimately convinced the makers that the third film should serve as the conclusion. Ajay therefore does not want to make Drishyam 4 merely because the franchise has become successful.
For him, a story should end when it reaches a natural high point rather than being extended without a compelling narrative reason.
Why Drishyam 4 Is Not Planned in Hindi
The biggest challenge for Drishyam 4 would be finding another mystery capable of matching the tension created by the previous films.
The Hindi franchise revolves around Vijay Salgaonkar, an ordinary family man who uses extraordinary planning to protect his loved ones. The suspense comes from watching Vijay stay several steps ahead of the police while trying to keep his family's secrets hidden.
After two successful films, the makers needed a fresh conflict that could offer the same level of suspense without repeating the formula.
Ajay believes the upcoming film provides a suitable ending to Vijay's current journey. Instead of forcing another sequel, the team has chosen to close this chapter with Drishyam: The Conclusion.
Malayalam Franchise Takes a Different Route
The situation is completely different for the original Malayalam series.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor has confirmed Drishyam 4 with Mohanlal expected to return as Georgekutty. Director Jeethu Joseph is also expected to continue developing the story after the success of the third Malayalam film.
The confirmation means that fans of Mohanlal's character will get another chapter, even though Ajay Devgn's Hindi version is preparing to end.
This makes the franchise unusual: the Malayalam story continues, while the Hindi adaptation is taking a different creative direction.
Hindi Drishyam 3 Has a Different Story
Ajay has also revealed that the upcoming Hindi film does not simply reproduce the story of Mohanlal's latest film.
According to the actor, the script of the Hindi third instalment is completely different from the Malayalam version. He has even expressed his desire for Mohanlal and the original team to watch the Hindi film.
This creative separation becomes particularly important because Drishyam 4 in Malayalam will follow Georgekutty, while the Hindi franchise is ending Vijay Salgaonkar's existing storyline.
Drishyam: The Conclusion Trailer Is Out
The announcement about Drishyam 4 comes on the same day that the trailer of Drishyam: The Conclusion has been released.
The trailer brings back Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, with Tabu, Shriya Saran and Rajat Kapoor reprising their roles. Jaideep Ahlawat joins the franchise as SP Crime Branch officer Rajveer Singh Tomar.
Rajveer appears determined to uncover the truth that Vijay has successfully hidden for years. The trailer sets up another battle of intelligence between Vijay and the new investigator, while suggesting that the Salgaonkar family's carefully constructed world could finally begin to fall apart.
Ajay Devgn Returns as Vijay Salgaonkar
Vijay Salgaonkar remains the central attraction of the Hindi series.
Unlike a conventional action hero, Vijay's biggest weapon is his ability to plan ahead. He understands how investigations work and carefully constructs evidence and timelines to protect his family.
The new film appears to put that strategy under unprecedented pressure. With Jaideep Ahlawat's character entering the story, Vijay now faces an investigator who seems determined to challenge every detail of his version of events.
That makes the upcoming film particularly important for fans who have followed Vijay's journey since 2015.
Could Drishyam 4 Still Happen With a New Story?
There is an interesting possibility here.
Earlier reports had suggested that the Hindi makers were considering taking the franchise forward with a completely different story, even if Vijay's current narrative ended with the third film.
However, Ajay's latest comments make it clear that there are currently no plans for a direct Drishyam 4 continuation.
This leaves open a theoretical possibility of another story in the same franchise at some point, but there is no confirmed fourth Hindi film at present.
For now, audiences should consider Drishyam: The Conclusion the final chapter of the existing Hindi storyline.
Drishyam: The Conclusion Release Date
Drishyam: The Conclusion is scheduled to release in cinemas on October 2, 2026.
The date once again carries special significance for the franchise, as October 2 has been closely associated with Vijay's carefully constructed alibis and the events of the earlier films.
The film is directed by Abhishek Pathak and also features Prakash Raj, Kamlesh Sawant, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav.
Hindi and Malayalam Franchises Now Have Different Futures
The contrasting plans surrounding Drishyam 4 have created an unusual situation for fans.
Mohanlal's Malayalam franchise is preparing for another chapter, while Ajay Devgn's Hindi series is choosing to conclude Vijay Salgaonkar's story.
That makes Drishyam: The Conclusion more than just another sequel. It is being positioned as the final chapter of the Hindi narrative audiences have followed for more than a decade.
Whether the film delivers a satisfying ending will ultimately determine how fans remember Vijay Salgaonkar's journey.
For now, one thing is clear: Drishyam 4 is not happening as a direct Hindi continuation, while the Malayalam franchise is preparing to move forward.
