Alka Yagnik, the legendary playback singer who has given her voice to numerous Bollywood hits, recently shared a surprising revelation. While she is widely celebrated for her melodious songs, and A. R Rahman is now hailed as one of Bollywood's greatest music composers, there was a time when these two icons were reluctant to collaborate. Today, A. R Rahman is a household name across India, revered for his unique compositions. However, this wasn’t always the case. In a recent interview, Alka Yagnik disclosed that there was a time when both she and Kumar Sanu were hesitant to work with A. R Rahman.

Alka Yagnik's Initial Hesitation

In an interview with Radio Nasha, Alka Yagnik recounted how early in A. R Rahman's career, he wasn't as widely known in the Bollywood industry as he is today, though he already had a significant reputation in the South Indian film industry. She shared, "I still remember getting a call from A. R Rahman, who was in Chennai at the time. He mentioned that he was a big fan of mine and expressed his desire to create an entire soundtrack with me and Kumar Sanu. He was preparing the music for a new film."

A. R Rahman: Scheduling Conflicts and Uncertainty

Alka further explained that one of the issues was the urgency of A. R Rahman's request. He wanted to work with them immediately, but their schedules were already packed with prior commitments in Mumbai. Yagnik had established strong working relationships with many composers in Mumbai, and she was reluctant to prioritize someone she barely knew over her existing commitments.

Regret and Realization

After discussing the offer with Kumar Sanu, who shared similar reservations, both decided to decline the opportunity. Alka admitted, "At that time, we both turned down the proposal, but later, when I heard the songs composed by A. R Rahman, I felt like banging my head against a wall."
