The film “Horn and Ivory” has been chosen for screening in the Indian Panorama category at the 21st Chennai International Film Festival on December 16, 2023. Latha Warrier, the first-time producer of the film, expresses gratitude to the jury and excitement about sharing the platform with eminent filmmakers like Vivek Agnihotri, whose film “The Vaccine War” is also part of the festival.

“Horn and Ivory” is a psychological crime thriller with a runtime of ninety-three minutes. The story revolves around an aspiring and struggling young actress who faces conflicts as she navigates her dreams in the competitive world of showbiz. The film’s title, “Horn and Ivory,” is derived from the Gates of Horn and Ivory, symbolizing the gates of true dreams and false dreams.

Dr. Vineet Yadav, the writer and director of the film, conceived the idea during a hike on the Lonavala-Rajmachi forest trail. Initially planned as a short film, it evolved into a full-length feature. The film underwent changes, including the shift from the working title “My Rainbow, My Colors” to “Horn and Ivory.” The story, initially crafted around an Indian protagonist, took an unexpected turn with the involvement of Daria Gavrushenko, a talented Russian actress who fell in love with the character of Myra.

Despite working with a limited budget, the film boasts world-class cinematography, captured with Red Helium 8K cameras. The picturesque locations, including an island setting and the Red Square in Moscow, add to the visual appeal. The film was shot in a record number of days, proving that quality films don’t necessarily require extensive time and large budgets.

Producer Latha Warrier emphasizes the serendipitous nature of the film’s production, citing chance encounters that led to collaborations and logistical support. The film’s overseas shooting was facilitated by Moscow-based Julia, and contacts within the forest department aided in filming the movie’s climax. Warrier expresses gratitude for the smooth production process, allowing the team to focus on creating a compelling film without logistical burdens.
