Shiv Thakare, the first runner-up of ‘Bigg Boss Marathi Season 16’, recently disclosed some surprising details about the prize money he received from the reality show. Despite winning the show and the announced prize of Rs. 25 lakhs, Shiv revealed that nearly half of his winnings had to be paid to the government as taxes.

Shiv Thakare, who started his career with reality shows, had previously won two reality competitions before participating in ‘Bigg Boss Marathi’. His impressive gameplay not only earned him the runner-up position in ‘Bigg Boss Marathi’ but also secured the show’s trophy.

In a recent podcast with comedians Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachiyaa, Shiv opened up about his experience on ‘Bigg Boss Marathi’. He disclosed that while the announced prize money was Rs. 25 lakhs, a final round game deduction resulted in a reduction of Rs. 8 lakhs from the total prize. Consequently, Shiv received Rs. 17 lakhs as the final prize amount. After deducting taxes, approximately Rs. 11.5 lakhs were deposited into his bank account.

Shiv further elaborated on the expenses he incurred from his prize money. He had to cover the stylist’s fee, costs for his wardrobe, and even the travel expenses for his parents’ first flight to Mumbai. Consequently, not much of the prize money was left after these deductions.

Comparing ‘Bigg Boss Marathi’ to its Hindi counterpart, Shiv highlighted significant differences in the financial aspects. While contestants in ‘Bigg Boss Hindi’ receive services from a stylist and have their family’s travel and accommodation expenses covered by the channel, ‘Bigg Boss Marathi’ contestants often have to bear these expenses themselves.

It’s worth noting that both ‘Bigg Boss Hindi’ and ‘Bigg Boss Marathi’ deduct 35% tax from the prize money before transferring the remaining amount to the winner’s account.
