The legal representative of Asaram Bapu's trust has claimed that a character resembling the villain in the film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is based on Asaram Bapu.
Bollywood News: The charitable trust of rape convict Asaram has sent a legal notice to the makers of the upcoming ZEE5 movie, Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, and its lead actor, Manoj Bajpayee. The notice alleges that the character of the movie’s villain has been modeled on the convict. The trust has also sent notices to the Information & Broadcasting Ministry and CBFC, urging them to halt the movie’s release and remove its trailer from the internet.
The legal notice sent by Asaram Bapu’s trust has claimed that the teaser and trailer of the film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai contain highly objectionable and derogatory content towards Asaram Bapu. The notice further states that the filmmaker has used obscene and hateful language, which is insulting to Asaram’s character and his religious and spiritual beliefs, and is a portrayal of him as a negative character. They have urged the Information & Broadcasting Ministry and CBFC to stop the release of the film and remove the trailer from the internet, as it could cause irreparable damage to Asaram’s reputation and standing in society.
According to the notice sent by Advocate Satya Prakash Sharma, the character in the movie Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, who plays the villainous Godman, shares similarities in voice, name, and appearance with Asaram Bapu.
Bollywood Film Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai Faces Legal Objection from Asaram’s Trust
According to the notice, the release of the film Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai will not only cause “mental agony” and “embarrassment” to Asaram and his followers but will also result in a loss of trust and respect among them, leading to a significant impact on his social and financial standing. The notice argues that the portrayal of Asaram in the film will hurt the sentiments of his community and religious group, which is against the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on the certification of films. Therefore, the notice urges the authorities to take action and stop the release of the film.
According to the notice, Asaram is currently in prison for alleged offenses under the POCSO act, and the release of the movie could have an impact on the final verdict of his appeal pending before the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur. The notice suggests that the movie’s release may have serious consequences for Asaram’s case.
Advocate requests authorities to restrain from Movie release
According to the notice sent by Advocate Satya Prakash Sharma, even if the film Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai is released directly on OTT platforms, it would still come under the purview of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.
