In a recent FCCI FRAMES session, Ayushmann Khurrana shared insights about his journey as an unconventional actor and his role in redefining the concept of a modern-day hero in Bollywood. He elaborated on his thought process when it comes to choosing roles and scripts, and highlighted the obstacles he encountered while trying to break free from stereotypes and create his own unique identity in the industry. Ayushmann’s achievements serve as evidence that there is indeed a space for actors who are unafraid to experiment and push the limits of Indian cinema.

During a recent interview, Ayushmann Khurrana shared what inspired him to choose unconventional roles in the film industry. According to him, there has always been room for every kind of character and actor in every era. In the 2010s, he observed a specific gap for an actor who could also portray a character. This was around the time of his debut film Vicky Donor (2012), which was an unconventional movie that also became a commercial success. He noted that Ranbir Kapoor had just started his career and there was a lack of young actors in their 20s as most of them were in their 30s and 40s at that time.

In addition, Ayushmann Khurrana mentioned that when Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh made their entry into Bollywood, he felt that there was little left for him to do. He felt compelled to take the unconventional path as there was no other option available. Fortunately, his decision to do so paid off and he has been successful. Ayushmann also revealed that he started his career as a television host, and director Shoojit Sircar saw something unique in him that led to his casting in Vicky Donor. He didn’t even have to audition for the role, and that’s where it all started for him.

Ayushmann Khurrana also discussed the motivating factor behind his films. He emphasized that he is not fixated on his own character in the movies, but rather on the overall story. He mentioned that the characters surrounding him are also vital, as they are strong and contribute significantly to the narrative. Ayushmann cited examples of actors like Jaideep Ahlawat, Rajkummar Rao, Gajraj Rao, Neena Gupta, and Bhumi Pednekar who have shared the screen with him in various films and played pivotal roles.

In terms of exploring new genres, Ayushmann expressed his interest in trying out a horror comedy soon. He stated that he is enthusiastic about the project and hopes to add his signature quirkiness to it. He also added that the film has to be distinctive, or else it won’t grab his attention.

Ayushmann Khurrana’s upcoming film, Dream Girl 2, is highly anticipated and scheduled for release on August 25. Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and produced by Balaji Telefilms, the film stars Ayushmann and Ananya Panday in the lead roles. It is expected to be a comedy and promises to be a fun and entertaining watch.
