The diplomatic world often observes not just what’s discussed but also gauges the sentiments and rapport shared between leaders. Meloni took to social media, sharing a selfie tweet with PM Modi, igniting a wave of enthusiasm regarding the burgeoning friendship between the two. Their meeting video has gone viral, highlighting the burgeoning closeness between India and Italy, which has raised eyebrows in China, particularly concerning President Xi Jinping.

Italy’s recent moves signaling a departure from China’s ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) have further strengthened the blossoming relationship between Meloni and Modi. During their Dubai encounter, the leaders shared warm moments and engaged in extensive discussions, spanning trade, defense, and technology.

PM Modi posted on social media, highlighting discussions on bilateral trade, commerce, and defense in their bilateral talks. In a gesture of personal warmth, Meloni also extended birthday wishes to PM Modi. Italy’s withdrawal from China’s BRI projects signifies a significant diplomatic win, and it’s viewed as a triumph for the Modi government’s diplomacy. This shift might cost China billions of dollars.

PM Modi is known for transforming diplomatic relations into personal connections, fostering close ties with several global leaders, including former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, ex-Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Now, Italian PM Meloni joins the league of PM Modi’s close allies.

Earlier this year, during the eighth edition of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, PM Meloni was invited as the chief guest, signifying the strengthening bond between India and Italy. During their interaction, Meloni praised PM Modi as one of the world’s most popular leaders. PM Modi, in turn, highlighted the 75-year-old political ties between India and Italy and announced the commencement of defense relations, marking a promising start. Additionally, the meeting witnessed the announcement of a startup bridge between India and Italy.

The growing warmth and shared visions between PM Modi and Meloni underscore the robust future prospects for bilateral relations, marking a significant shift in global diplomatic dynamics.
