Dhadak 2 Day 1 Box Office Collection: Fails to Impress Against Son of Sardaar 2 and Saiyara

Dhadak 2, the much-anticipated romantic drama starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, hit theatres on August 1. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, the film touches upon sensitive themes of caste discrimination through the lens of an inter-caste love story. Despite the promising cast and meaningful subject, the film struggled to attract audiences on its opening day.

Slow Start for Dhadak 2 at the Box Office

According to early trade reports, Dhadak 2 managed to earn only ₹3.35 crore on its first day. For a film backed by big names and addressing a social issue, this figure has come across as underwhelming. The audience response so far has been mixed, and while the storyline has earned praise from a section of viewers, the footfalls in theatres haven’t matched expectations.

Beaten by Son of Sardaar 2 and Saiyara

Released on the same day, Son of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn, recorded a stronger opening. The comedy-drama earned ₹6.75 crore on Day 1, almost double that of Dhadak 2. Although both films belong to entirely different genres—romantic drama versus family comedy—the clash at the box office clearly favoured Devgn’s film in terms of initial draw.

Adding to Dhadak 2’s woes is Saiyara, another love story that continues its successful run even into the third week. Surprisingly, Saiyara collected ₹4.25 crore on its 15th day, which is higher than Dhadak 2’s first-day collection. This performance underlines that while audiences are open to romantic dramas, Dhadak 2 failed to make an emotional or narrative impact strong enough to drive large numbers on opening day.

The Film’s Theme and Cast

Dhadak 2 focuses on a love story between individuals from different caste backgrounds, spotlighting how caste discrimination still persists in 21st-century India. The film aims to raise questions around social structures, prejudices, and family honor.

Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi share the screen for the first time, and early reviews note their performances as sincere and impactful. Supporting roles are played by Saurabh Sachdeva, Vipin Sharma, and Zakir Hussain, while the film marks the directorial debut of Shazia Iqbal.

Will Word-of-Mouth Turn Things Around?

Although the opening day numbers are disappointing, it remains to be seen whether word-of-mouth and weekend audience turnout can bring a boost to Dhadak 2. The film’s message-driven narrative might find a more appreciative audience as time progresses, especially in urban centers.

For now, Dhadak 2 has started slow and faces an uphill task in gaining momentum against both fresh and already-successful releases at the box office.
